We Shall Overcome

The father drives a rickshaw, the mother gathers firewood, and the boy helps them whenever possible. It's a hard life filled with obstacles. Yet, the whole family acts as one unit in leaping over each barrier to come clean on the other side. “We Shall Overcome”, is this family's motto. Pushing a loaded rickshaw with wood, stuck in a track of mud is no easy job. But it doesn't matter to this family, because they know that this is what life is: it's the story of the mouse that fell in a bucket of milk and churned it to butter till he could get out.

The Celebrating Life 2010 1st place winner, Kazi Golam Quddus, has described the photograph as an appealing sight that shows conviction on the part of our people who will not give up in any circumstances. It portrays the potential which is maybe greater than any other nation. “If properly nurtured, this potential can advance this nation by one decade instantly,” says Quddus. He says the competition is a great platform to bring awareness to people.
