Round Table on Learning Without Fear
Students need a secured and healthy environment in schools and other educational institutes where they can learn without any kind of intimidation. Only enforcing a law might not be enough. Tor turn this idea into reality, all the private organisations should come forward to raise social awareness. Dr Md Afsarul Ameen, MP, Minister for Primary and Mass Education highlighted these facts as the chief guest at the round table discussion titled 'Learn without Fear'. The roundtable was jointly organised by the Directorate of Primary Education, Bangladesh Shishu Academy and Plan Bangladesh on May 14.
Dr Ameen added that the court has already banned corporal punishment in educational institutions. The teachers must be aware of that. He stressed the need for strengthening monitoring in schools so that teachers do not resort to corporal punishment.

The special guest of this event, Md Motahar Hossain, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education said that in our country students still become victims of physical and mental violence in schools. Many teachers have been sentenced for such activities till date.
Among others, Rasheda K Chowdhury, former adviser to the caretaker government, Shyamol Dutta, Editor, Bhorer Kagoj and M Anwar Hossain Shikder, Country Director of Plan Bangladesh spoke at the roundtable. Plan Bangladesh has arranged this programme in 66 counties since 2008.
