Prize giving ceremony at Amar Ekushey Hall,KUET

The "Prize Distribution Ceremony and Fresher's Reception" of 2007 Batch was held on 29 April in the evening at the Amar Ekushey Hall, KUET. The Vice Chancellor Dr. Nawsher Ali was present as chief guest on the occasion. The provost of the hall, Dr. Mizanur Rahman was present as the chairperson while Dr. Aftab Hossain was present as the special guest.

The Vice Chancellor said in his speech that student life is the best time for acquiring knowledge. So, during this time their conscience should be developed.
Dr. Naseem Ahmed, Dr. Kutub Uddin, and Dr. Abu Yousuf also addressed the audience. Other teachers who were present at the ceremony were Dr. Mihir Ranjan Halder, Dr. Enamul Kabir, Dr. M.A. Bashar, Dr. Abul Kalam Azad, Dr. Manjur Hossain and Dr. Bazlur Rahman.


KMC Cricket Mania

The prize giving ceremony of Khulna Medical College (KMC) Cricket Tournament was held at gallery 1 of the college building recently. Principal of KMC, Prof. Dr. Abu Bakar was the chief guest of the ceremony. He awarded the players of the tournaments for excellent performances in different capacities.

All batches of the MBBS course of KMC participated in the tournament. Six teams were formed from the students and internee doctors. After the exciting matches of first round & semifinals, 'Warriors 15' (15th batch MBBS,3rd year) and 'Brave Heart 17' (17th batch MBBS,1st year) faced one another at the final match, in which 'Brave Heart 17' emerged victorious. Shahed of 'Brave Heart 17' was selected the 'Man of The Match' for the final match and 'Man of The Series' for the tournament.

Debate and Quiz Contest at BGCTUB

A four-day English debate and quiz contest was held at BGC Trust University Bangladesh from 17 May. Dept. of English Language and Literature organised the contest in which students of various semesters of the dept. participated and competed in a friendly spirit. In all eight teams for both debate and quiz participated. The programme was inaugurated by Chair of the dept. Prof. Kamal C. Nandy. Faculty Adviser to the Debate and Quiz Club, Md. Khaled Bin Chowdhury supervised the whole programme and also conducted the quiz contest.

The motion of the final debate contest was ''Only settled marriage can make conjugal life happy.'' Team from the 5th semester became the champion by beating the team from the 3rd semester. Pompy Dhar of 5th semester became the best debater.

The subjects of the quiz contest covered areas like Bengali history and culture, current national and international affairs, Bengali and English literature. Quite surprisingly, team of 1st semester became the best one by beating that of 3rd semester.


Advanced course on Communicative English at BAU

Speakers at the certificate awarding ceremony of a month-long higher training on 'Advanced course on Communicative English' emphasised the need for improvement and management of communication skills in English for success in the professional life.

The event, held at the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), was sponsored by the Language Laboratory of the Department of Languages of the University.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Musharraf Hossain Mian was the chief guest at the concluding day of the training course and certificate awarding ceremony, while Professor Dr. Nazrul Islam, Head, Department of Languages was in the chair.

Course Coordinator and former Head of the Department of Languages Professor Abdur Razzaque and Md. Motaher Khaled spoke on the occasion explaining the aims and objectives of the course. In total, 18 BAU graduates and officers of the university took part in the 38th batch of the training course. Later, the Vice-Chancellor awarded certificates to the participants of the training course.


Presentation on butterflies at Access Academy of Asian University for Women

A presentation programme on butterfly was held at Access Academy of Asian University for Women (AUW) on May 29.

Zoologist Professor Dr Shafique Haider Chowdhury was the key speaker at the presentation programme.

Dr Shafique created a beautiful world of the butterflies through a power point presentation and screened the many mysteries of nature. He elaborated the types, nature, food habit and lifecycle of the butterflies, and showed pictures of different species of butterflies which were found in Bangladesh.

Following the presentation, students of the academy asked a wide range of questions about the variety of butterflies and their availability throughout the country.


ULAB Organises an Orientation Program for Summer Semester

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised an orientation program for its summer semester on 24 May 2008 at its Dhanmondi Campus auditorium.

ULAB warmly welcomed the freshmen. Vice Chancellor Prof. Rafiqul Islam welcomed the students. Prof. Abdul Mannan, faculty of ULAB Business School and ex-VC, ChittagongUniversity, and Assistant Professor M. Asiuzzaman, MSJ Department, also spoke on the occasion. Among others, ULAB faculty members from the CSE Department, English and Humanities and ETE and senior members from ULAB administration were present in the event.


The Executive Committee of Journalists Association of Bangladesh Agricultural University formally congratulated the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain at his office.

ASA University Observes 1st Anniversary

ASA University Bangladesh observed its 1st anniversary on 31 May 2008 through different colourful events. A rally was brought out with the participation of the students, teachers, employees and guests on the university campus. A discussion program was held to mark the day. Prof. Dr. Nazrul Islam,Chairman of the University Grants Commission, was the Chief Guest at the function. M. Shafiqul Haque Choudhury, the Chairman of ASAUB spoke on the occasion. Vice Chancellor of ASAUB presided over the session. The students staged a cultural program at the end of the day.


Int'l Turkish Hope School students Excel at Language Olympiads

Three members of the Bangladesh team who participated in the Int'l Turkish Language Olympiads, received 2 Golden, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze Medal. Farzana Siddique, Rifatul Hassan Rutul and Muyeedul Islam, students of Int'l Turkish Hope School and their teachers Yakup Karatosun and Murat Aydin, represented Bangladesh in the event in which 550 students from 110 countries participated.

Rifatul Hassan Rutul received a Golden Medal in Turkish Speech Category and Silver medal in Special Talents Category. Farzana Siddique received the Golden Medal in the Song category. Besides, the team received Bronze Medal in the Stall Category, where they exhibited the traditional handicrafts representing Bangladeshi culture and tradition.

The Olympiad concluded with a Grand Gala Program at the biggest auditorium of Europe named Istanbul Culture and Congress Center. The President of Turkish National Grand Assembly, Education Minister, Justice Minister, members of the Turkish Parliament, Ambassadors of different countries, Governor and Mayor of Istanbul, well known scholars and media personalities, famous singers, sportsmen and many more distinguished guests graced the occasion. Bangladesh team visited many historical places, prominent universities and modern educational institutions of Turkey.


Seminar at Department of Public Health, State University of Bangladesh

The department of Public Health, State University of Bangladesh (SUB), organized a seminar on ' Role of Public Health Education in Achieving MDG in Bangladesh' on 07 June 2008 at the university auditorium on the occasion of the 5th Anniversary of the department. Mr. A.K.M. Zafar Ullah Khan, Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, was the chief guest at the occasion. Professor Md. Abul Faiz, Director General of Health Services, was present as the special guest. Prof. M S Ilyas Dhami, Vice Chancellor (acting), SUB, presided over the session.


Seminar at Govt. Ananda Mohan College

Department of Social Work of Govt. Ananda Mohan College, Mymensingh organised a daylong seminar on 'The importance of Field Work in Social Work' at the seminar room of the department on May 27.

Prof. Md. Shafi Uddin, Principal of Govt. Ananda Mohan College was present as chief guest while Prof. Roquiya Begum and Tafazzal Hossain, Vice-Principal and Associate Professor of Management Department of the college respectively were present as special guests.

Prof. Dr. Md. Nurul Islam of Institute of Social Welfare and Research, University of Dhaka spoke in the seminar as the resource person. Prof. Md. Abdus Salam, Head of Social Work Department moderated the seminar. Bijon Dev Roy, Lecturer of Social Work department presented the keynote paper at the seminar.

An open discussion was also held in which the audience also took part. Teachers and students of the department attended the seminar.


Nobin Boron Program of AIUB Architecture Students for Summer 2007-08 Semester

The students of the Architecture Department of AIUB organized a cultural program on the occasion of 'Nobin Boron' for the freshman students of Summer 2007-08 semester on 02 June at the AIUB auditorium. The Pro-vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Anwar Hossain, Registrar Prof. Dr. Hasan Imtiaz Chowdhury, the Head of Architecture Department Prof. Dr. Salehuddin, Coordinator of Engineering Mr. Rezaul Bari and Coordinator of Architecture Mr. Arefeen Ibrahim and Director of Public Relations Mr. Md. Lutfar Rahman, attended the program along with other University officials.

A skit was presented to the audience, which included recitation, dance, songs etc. The seniors received the new members of the architecture family with flowers and wristbands. The Faculties, guests and students enjoyed the program.


International Workshop held at NUB

Northern University, Bangladesh organized an International Workshop on 'How to Deliver Quality Lecture' at BCSIR (Bangladesh Council of Scientific & Industrial Research) Auditorium.

Prof. James Ronnie Davies, Department of Economics and Finance, University of New Orleans, USA and visiting Professor, Northern University Bangladesh, was present as the speaker of the workshop. Prof. Dr. M. Shamsul Haque, Vice Chancellor of the university was the Chair of the workshop while Syed Sultana Razia, Associate Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, BUET; Md. Lutfor Rahman, Director, Human Resourcess Division of Northern University Bangladesh, were present as special guests on the occasion.


The City School International was awarded the First Place in Best Programming Project and Second Place in Overall Perfomance in the three-day "3rd Inter-school ICT Fair 2008" that began at Oxford International School on 24 April.

DIU English Dept Prize Awarding Ceremony

A Prize Awarding Ceremony and Cultural Function of the English Department of Daffodil International University was held at the university auditorium on June 10, 2008 with great enthusiasm. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Aminul Islam, distributed certificates and crests among the students.

The prizes were given to those who secured first, second and third positions in three events -- story writing competition, essay writing competition and chess competition -- during Spring Semester 2008.

In story writing competition Kazi Jobaida Akter, Shamim Ansary and Zinat Rahman received the first, second and third prizes respectively. In essay writing competition Shihab Haider Siddique, Md. Hasan Shahrear and Md. Lazminur Alam won the first, second and third prizes respectively. In chess competition, the champion's prize went to Alok Kumar Sarker while Abu Zafor Md. Zoha and Kazi Dilruba Sultana captured the prizes of first runner-up and second runner-up respectively.

The prize distribution session was followed by a gorgeous cultural function in which the teachers and students of English Department performed. In his speech of chair, the Vice-Chancellor noted that competition is the key to achieving excellence in any field. This is not only true for sports but for every field including education.

The prize awarding ceremony was also addressed, among others, by Dr. Binoy Barman, Head of the Department of English. He said that Daffodil International University takes great interest in organising extracurricular activities out of the confines of regular curricular programmes. Extracurricular activities provide an opportunity for the students to exercise their creative faculty and harness their skills and interests. “Reading prescribed books make students knowledgeable but out-of-syllabus engagements develop their personalities with broadening of their vision,” he observed.

The whole programme was conducted by English Department faculty members Umme Kulsum and Mustafizur Rahman.


“Dhaka University Cultural Team” Celebrate its 1st Anniversary

It was 7 P.M. of 1st June, 2008. The members of the “Dhaka University Cultural Team” were present at the T.S.C. of University of Dhaka to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the team. On that evening the team arranged a wonderful program on an open stage in the green field of T.S.C.

The program began after the entrance of Dr. S. M. A. Faiz, the Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University. The celebration began with some popular songs, which were presented by the members of the team.

The V C along with the members of “DU Cultural team” cut the Anniversary Cake. After cutting the cake, the respectable V.C. expressed his views about the cultural team and also about the program. After his speech Mr. Md. Alamgir Hossain, the director of T.S.C., and Dr. Mustafizur Rahman, Advisor of T.S.C., articulated their feelings about the team and the program. There is an exciting news waiting for all the members of D.U. Cultural Team, that is - to celebrate the anniversary in style, the team has decided to take a trip to Cox's Bazaar on 20th June, 2008.

It was on 1st June, 2007 when, amongst 800 contestants, 114 were selected for appearing in the final round of “Dhaka University Cultural Competition-2007”. The qualifiers of the final round got the chance to have a grooming session near the sea-shore of Cox's Bazaar. During the four-day long session, they got lessons from renowned artistes of the country. The top 10 qualifiers of each cultural sector got the opportunity to perform for a CD and it is expected that the CDs will be published soon under the banner of Dhaka University. After the incorporation of the “D.U. Cultural Team”, in a short span of time, it has organized several programs on several occasions; which were telecast on some television channels.

Sunnydalians make presentation at Dhaka Stock Exchange

Ever Heard (school) children making presentation on 'Stock Market' at Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), and that again in front of gurus of Stock Market? Kidding? No, you heard it right. That's exactly what Sunnydalians have done on May 27, 2008. A group of 'O' Level students from Sunnydale led by their course teacher Mr. Siddique Hayat Khan and Course Coordinator, Mrs. Sheba Tasnim Hoq visited the DSE and made a presentation that fascinated everyone there.

The three presenters, Faria Mehjabeen, Sharika Khan, and Tonmoy Islam covered almost every aspects of capital market from the emergence of the first stock exchange to leading bourses in the world, to how trading of stocks and bonds are being carried out at DSE. Mr. Salahuddin Ahmed Khan, CEO (Chief Executive Officer) who along with other officials watched the whole presentation, praised the students for their meticulous work in collecting information, preparing multimedia slides and report, and showing the courage to stand up and present in front of experts. He also thanked their teacher for guiding them well for the presentation. Prior to the presentation, the CEO gave an overview of the affairs of the DSE and how it has progressed over the years in terms of number of listed companies to volume of trade, to setting up the most sophisticated ICT system that has made DSE at par with leading Stock Exchanges in the world. He mentioned that as more and more companies are listing with the stock exchange, someday it will be the largest sources of finance for businesses and when these students will graduate the stock exchange will be the most attractive place for job. In response to a question from the CEO they all expressed their desire to join the stock market after they graduate. The presentation ended with vote of thanks by Mrs. Sheba Tasnim Hoq.


Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor of BRAC University visiting a stall set up during the Club Day observed recently on the campus. Club Day is an event that takes place every semester to introduce new students to the various clubs and their activities.
