Summer Ideas
Ipshita Fahmin
IT's only the second week of June and the tyrant sun promised itself to make its presence felt by its scorching heat of summer and the rising humidity. While the summer protects hundreds of life from cold winter it imposes the unbearable heat with uncomfortable after effects.
Our young minds are always ready to rumble and rave! Temper shoots off through the roof for any silly reason with the humidity and heat working as catalysts. For example, the fights between rickshaw pullers and car drivers increase much more in summer time. It's just a tendency to grumble off into another person and keep one's metabolism under control. But for our own benefit, it's very important for us to keep ourselves as cool as possible.
But how is it possible to remain cool when our day starts with load-shedding which leads to no water supply? I wonder how many people get stuck in their washrooms every single day for no water and ultimately getting a red entry at office! And when we hit the road it's just simply another world of toy cars in show! The traffic jam is so static, I wonder when actually the car moves forward. And like many of us, those who have classes at 8 am in the morning, it's hard to stay calm for its always in the last minute that we bump into class saying 'Sir, the jam' and he never seems to be convinced with that excuse! How terrible can that be!
So the day starts finally and every moment is like hell! Those university classroom air conditioners seem nothing more than decorative showpieces as they can do little during load sheddings. Ever imagine what torture we go through in those classes when the lectures go on in airtight glass fitted rooms with no A.C working? Obviously classes go on and some snore in the classrooms. The cruelest thing that happens all the time with university students is that for power failure, we mostly miss our project submission deadlines! Who would take the responsibility of our troubles and be responsible for our grades? We aren't always the guilty ones, we are just another bunch of victms of circumstances.
So how do we keep ourselves cool in this hot summer?
Be creative during traffic jams - let's say we have been stuck in a traffic jam for a long time and its quite near to our destination. Walking would be a logical solution; after all it's just another form of exercise. Incase you have to look good for a class or office, do your make ups inside the car! That would save time and at least you will not be bored. Or you can take your breakfast in boxes and have it on the way!
Be covered - ever imagine what other benefits are there for wearing the Hijab? Correct! It saves us from getting sun tanned! To save ourselves from diseases caused by excessive exposure to sunlight, it's better to be covered. Carrying an umbrella might sound too outdated but trust me it can save you from millions of troubles. Carry a fashionable umbrella, style up your colourful umbrella and definitely that would create a style mantra.
Don't forget to carry your ever-neglected water bottle- it'll save you in time. Besides isn't it better to drink water than to be dumped on hospital bed for jaundice or typhoid? Carry a tiny Chinese fan with you. And the most effective thing is to always say, 'its just another day, it'll pass' or just 'Be cool stay calm' to yourself. Often psychological approaches save us from millions of problems.
After all, we are the lucky ones to get the variety of seasons and trend up in style for different seasons! Let's chill this summer.
