“KNOWING is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. To enhance the knowing through experience, EWU MBA club arranged a day-long visit to Masafi Group on 31 May 2008. The newly elected Executive bodies of EWU MBA club are expecting to come out with lots of unique activities which will be as fun as they would be educative. And arranging the trip to the factories of Masafi Group was their first step on the road of 'learn with fun'.
The journey started at 9.30am from the EWU campus under the inspection of Dr. Nazrul Islam, coordinator, EWU MBA club and Mr. Tabarak Hossain Bhuiyan, Head of HR, Prime Bank and adjunct faculty of EWU. We all were exhausted because of the hot sunny day when we reached Mirzapur to visit Masafi Bread & Biscuit Ind. Ltd. But all the tiredness disappeared after entering the production floor. In a word it was great experience to see the procedure of making the biscuits over there. Mr. Momtaz Uddin Ahmed, GM of Masafi group showed production of high protein biscuits which they manufacture for World Food Program (WFP) and supply to Sidr victims, Srilanka, Pakistan etc. We came to know that only 8pcs of those biscuits are enough for a person to survive for a day. Masafi group is also the contract manufacturer of the most popular biscuit Parle-G. Mr. Saiful Huda Chowdhury Shatil, Director, Masafi group said, we launched Parle-G in Bangladesh without any promotional activities and still it's very popular here for its low price and great taste. Later, we visited the newly launched spinning mill which is a sister concern of Masafi group. The spinning mill produces yarn which they sell to different kneeting factories. All the participants were very excited to visit the huge but clean production floor and watch the production system presented by Engr. Mohammad Mohiuddin, Executive Director, Masafi group. After the presentation Dr. Nazrul Islam handed over Crests to Mr. Saiful Huda Chowdhury Shatil and Mr. Mohammad Mohiuddin as a token of appreciation on behalf of EWU MBA club.
The reaction of the visitors was very positive and encouraging for the MBA club. Fabin, an MBA student of EWU said, "I took Operations Management course in this semester and the trip was really helpful for me to understand the concept of the course practically." Another student Mahi said, "visiting two different manufacturing processes at the same day was really exciting and I hope that EWU MBA club will arrange more educational programs like this in future."
The trip was successful because of the sincere contribution of all the EWU MBA club members who worked really hard. Khan Ahrar Nabil, Vice president EWU MBA club said, "we are extremely thankful to the students who participated and appreciated our work and we promise to bring more exciting events in future to enhance our experiences." Tanvir Omar, President, Omer Sharif Ibney Hai, General Secretary, EWU MBA club were also present in the trip along with others.
