Moheshpur Secondary School

146 years ago some twelve Hindu landlords founded this institute at Moheshpur upazila town. At first the school was called Shangshkriti Patshala. Later it was renamed as an English School. It was recognised by Calcutta University.

This school stood on a vast piece of land with a lot of buildings, trees and a big playground. At present it lies in the heart of Moheshpur town in Jhenidah. It is one of the oldest schools and has become an important part of the culture of the region. Moheshpur Pilot Secondary School performs the best in a lot of things, such as the SSC exam, the junior scholarship exam, scouting, B.N.C.C, vocational and Open University. There has hardly been a year when students from this school have not secured places in public examinations under the Jessore board. These meritorious students have gone on to serve the nation in different ways. Since its inception, the school has produced many students who have gone on to do really well in life. Among the brightest alumni are Shafikul Azam Khan Chanchal, acting lawmaker in the Jhenidah-3-constituency, Dr. Abdus Salam, PDB Chief Medical officer, Ahsanul Karim Kachi, Marine Engineer, Shahidul Islam, Engineer in Dhaka, Tahazzel Hossain, Medical Officer, Abdul Goni. Assistant Secretary, Touhid Hasan, Magistrate serving in Dhaka, Subrata Moitra, Zilla Parishad Secretary, Abdur Razzak, Deputy Secretary, Rubel Kuddus Kajal, Barrister Supreme Court and High court.

This year 95% of the examinees passed in the SSC examinations, 10 students obtained GPA 5 and 15 students secured junior scholarships. Besides its outstanding academic results, Moheshpur Pilot Secondary School fosters an environment where the students can engage in exciting extracurricular activities like scouting. In 2001 a student received a national award for his success in scouting. There is a library containing 3300 books. A computer lab keeps the student in touch with modern technology and for computer classes. There are 24 classrooms in the institution and 16 teachers. Every Thursday fun activities are done, like musical lessons.

The school regrets that it has not yet been nationalised. In 2001 the government had said the school would be nationalised but no such measures have been taken. It is remarkable that no document within the years of 1863 to 1905 exists. According to a record of Calcutta University, examinees from this old school started to appear in 1885.

The many headmasters the school has had throughout the years deserve recognition and their names follow. Babu Profullah Mojumdar (1906-1940), Babu Khirod Gopal Roy Chowdhury (1941-1943), Babu Fanibhusan Mukhadhya (1943-1946), Babu Sudhir Ranjan Mukherjee (1946-1947), Babu Anath Roy (1947-1948), Abu Bakar Mollah (1949-1954), Abu Bakkar Siddique (1954-1956), Abdul Kader (1956-1958), Md. Waliul Islam (1958-2002), Mohammad Ali (in-Charge- 2002-2002), Mohammad Ali (2002-2007). ATM Khairul Anam is presently the Headmaster.
