Supply Chain Management in Telecom: Seminar at BUET

IT has been a decade since the concept of 'Supply Chain Management' was officially initiated in the corporate arena of Bangladesh. Although it is a new concept, it has gained much popularity among the top business organisations in Bangladesh and is gradually becoming an integral part of the corporate world.

Comprehending its importance in this competitive business world, Department of Industrial And Production Engineering (IPE), BUET has incorporated “Supply Chain Management” (SCM) in their course curriculum in the year 2008. Since then, the efficiency of the graduates has found new aspects and has proven to be effective in organisations that practice SCM. In order to take the success to a greater level and exchanging thoughts, The Association Of Industrial And Production Engineers (AIPE) organised a seminar titled “Supply Chain Management in the Telecom Sector” on May 4, 2011 that was conducted by two successful personnel in this arena, currently working for Grameenphone Ltd. The speakers at the seminar were Arne Viggo Aronsen, Head of Sourcing (Director) and Asif Mohammed Touhid, Head of Sourcing Operation and Development (General Manager), Grameenphone.

Asif Mohammed Touhid initiated the session with a multimedia presentation showing a timeline that displayed how and when SCM took off.

Arne Viggo Aronsen, shared his views and personal experiences regarding working with SCM and gave useful tips about what one should do to become a perfect and efficient employee in corporate sectors.

The seminar was followed by a question and answer session regarding various aspects of SCM. The event ended with the vote of thanks from the Department Head, Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Masud to the speakers, for sharing their valuable time with the department.
