A Day-Long Cleaning Campaign in Dhaka University
Korean International Co-operation Agency (KOICA) in collaboration with Korean Language Department of Modern Language Institute (IML) of Dhaka University and Dhaka University Environment Society (DUES) arranged a 'Campus Cleaning Campaign' in the university campus on April 21. Focusing on raising awareness of clean environment, around 150 youths from KOICA and DUES took part in the cleaning event. 'Let us Make Clean Bangladesh' was the agenda of the programme.

The whole event was divided into three parts. The first phase was held at the auditorium of IML where teachers of Dhaka University addressed the 'World Earth Day'. Professor Dr. Mizanur Rahman, the Treasurer of Dhaka University was the chief guest at the occasion while Dr. Dalem Chandra Barman, Chief Advisor of DUES, Professor Abul Mansur Muhammad Musa from the Department of Bangla of IML and Professor Dr. A.K.M. Walliul Islam from the Department of English were present as special guests. After the introductory session, volunteers from KOICA and members of DUES started their cleaning programme. They collected garbage from Hakim Square.
In the second phase, Dr. A.A.M.S. Arefin Siddiqui, the Honorable Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University came to inspire the volunteers. Referring to the necessity of keeping the environment clean, he said, “If people are physically clean, then they also remain mentally clean; mental cleanliness helps in keeping the environment clean.” Su Thai Yang, honourable Ambassador of Korea, Li Jung Wok, Representative from KOICA and Kim Su Hyun, Visiting Professor of Korean Language Department at IML were also present at the occasion.
In the third phase, the volunteers removed garbage from Mall Square of the University. After the garbage collection, volunteers transferred the garbage bags to a van of Dhaka City Corporation, signifying the successful end of the campaign.
