First Bioinformatics and Biotechnology Camp
Young Biotechnologists of Bangladesh (YoungBB) organised Bioinformatics and Biotechnology camp for the first time in Bangladesh. Students were trained on various applications of software to work in a laboratory and various methods of research. YoungBB is the central organisation of the young academicians and students of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering department of various universities. The first Bioinformatics and Biotechnology camp was held at Chittagong on February 18. Professor Dr. Nurul Absar, former Dean, RU and Chairman, Biotechnology Dept, USTC inaugurated the daylong programme. Rasel Wadud, CEO of Biotech Concern, Mustak Ibn Ayub, Adnan Mannan, Mahbubur Rashid also spoke on the inaugural session. After the inaugural programme there was a session on “Introduction to bioinformatics- from laboratory to PC” conducted by Mustak Ibn Ayub, Convener, YoungBB and Lecturer, Genetic Engineering Department, University of Dhaka. The next session was “Tools of Bioinformatics”. Mahbubur Rashid Coordinator, YoungBB and Lecturer, Genetic Engineering Department, DU directed the session. The next topic was “Generating research idea for Bioinformatics and Biotechnology”. Mahdi Moosa, Researcher, Jute genome sequence group “Shopnojatra” spoke on the topic. Adnan Mannan conducted an open discussion session. In the closing ceremony, Professor Dr. Mahmud A Chowdhury, Genetic Disorder researcher was present as chief guest. A. M .Abu Ahmed, Chairman, Genetic Engineering Deptartment, University of Chittagong and Nasir Uddin Haider, Sub Editor, Prothom Alo were present as special guests. Sabrina Samin Alam, Ayan Saha, students of CU and Rafi, a student of USTC also spoke at the programme. This event was sponsored by Biotech Concern, a biotechnology product based service provider organisation. Students of University of Chittagong and USTC took part in the camp.
