BrandWitz 2009 Kicks Off at IBA

IBA Communication Club (IBACC) takes great pleasure in bringing the inter university marketing and branding competition, BrandWitz, once again. This competition is about how the marketing masterminds engage in a battle of their wits to bring about the best branding campaigns.
IBA Communication Club initiated the BrandWitz competition last year. A total of 24 teams from 15 institutions participated to make this event a grand success. Last year Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and Khulna University became joint champions. This year, the competition gets even more intensified as there are 126 contestants in 42 teams from 16 institutions. The participating institutions are University of Dhaka, Jahangir Nagar University. Chittagong University, BRAC University, American International University Bangladesh (AIUB), North South University (NSU), Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB), Stamford University, The University of Asia Pacific, Khulna University, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, United International University, University of Development Alternative, International Islamic University of Chittagong, Shahjalal University and Institute of Business Administration
To make this competition a success, Clear a brand of Unilever Bangladesh partnered with IBACC in the last year. This year, they have again committed themselves to bring about this event at a larger scale. IBACC in partnership with Clear will organize road shows in the participating institutions from 14 November. The champions of this tournament are going to get a cash prize of Tk. 100,000. The total prize is worth Tk. 175,000. The competition will start off with a daylong workshop at IBA Auditorium on November 19, 2009. The final will be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on November 23, 2009..
Business Quiz Competition at AIUB

AIUB Business Club (ABC) organized an Internal Business Quiz Competition for its members on 15 October 2009 at the AIUB Auditorium. The competition was part of the ABC Members Day, a daylong programme that included training sessions. The whole event was divided in different segments including a business quiz, a leadership video exhibition, and sessions on team building spirit and performance evaluation.
Md. Habil Uddin (senior member) became the champion in the quiz competition. Shobaer Ahmed (senior member) and Anik Rahman (junior member) respectively obtained the 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up position. The day ended up with a speech from the faculty advisor of the club Ehsanul Huda Chowdhury, Director of MBA Programme, AIUB.
Literary Fiesta at Eastern University
THE Department of English, Eastern University recently organised a cultural programme titled "Literary Fiesta" at the university auditorium. Vice Chancellor (Acting) of the University Professor Abdur Rab was the chief guest while renowned poet of the country and Associate Professor of English at Jahangirnagar University Mohammad Rafiq was present as the guest of honour. Professor Nurul Islam, Dean, Faculty of Arts chaired the formal session. In the fiesta, the students presented scenes from different plays in their texts while the teachers staged a short play written by Tanvir Hasan Malik, Assistant Professor of the Department. Faculty members and students also recited self composed poems along with the invited poets.
2nd CDM Chandpur Debate Festival-2009

CHANDPUR Debate Movement (CDM) organised the '2nd CDM Chandpur Debate Festival 2009' at Shilpokola Academy, Chandpur on 23 October. Organised with the assistance of Bangladesh Debate Federation, the programme was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. Abdur Nur Tushar, President, Bangladesh Debate Federation, while it also saw the presence of Md. Nasir Uddin Ahmed, Mayor, Chandpur City Council; Dr. S.M. Shohidullah, Ex-President, BMA, Chandpur; Social Activist Alhaz Osman Goni Patwari and Md. Hossain of Shahrasti Somiti, Chittagong.. The programme kicked off with a procession from the Hasan Ali Government High School field to the Shilpokola Academy. The daylong event included training on English and Bangla debate, different form of debate presentations, a regional debate competition, and a cultural programme.
In the concluding ceremony, Advocate Iqbal Bin Bashar presided as chair and Bishwas Md. Azim Uddin, District Commissioner was the chief guest. Dr. Syeda Bodrun Nahar Chowdhury, Ex-Additional Director of Ministry of Health; Kamrul Hasan Sayak, Director of Panjeri publications and Md. Tazul Islam Pradhan also attended the event. The programme was telecast live by ETC channel of Chandpur and ABC radio. The other media partner was Daily Chandpur Kantha while creative marketing organization 'Nadi' acted as the event partner.
National Conference at CUET

THE Department of Physics of Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET) organised a national conference on “Materials Science & Technology for Sustainable Development: Bangladesh Perspective” on 8 November. Professor Jamal Nazrul Islam was present as the chief guest. Head of materials science division Dr.M.A.Hakim and Professor of MME, BUET A.K.M.Bazlur Rashid conducted the event. Visiting professor of East West University M.Ali Asgar highlighted the developments of new magnetic materials, their application and prospects in his keynote speech. He also concluded that basic research, applied research & industrial research must interact in a cooperative way giving rise to the development of materials science and technology.
Theatre show and cultural programme performed by YES in CTG

WITH the slogan “Invincible Youth Will Surely Resist Corruption”, YES (Youth Engagement and Support) group performed a premiere theatre show titled 'E kemon bichar' and a cultural programme at Nazrul Square, Chittagong on 12 November. The play was based on a five-day production-based theatre workshop carried out at the Regional Public Administration Training Center (RPATC), Chittagong from 9-13 August. The programme saw the presence of Committee of Concerned Citizens (CCCs) members, Convener Advocate Akhtar Kabir Chowdhury, Professor Hossain Kabir, and cultural activist Shahriar Khaled. The event started with the chorus of Tagore song “Aguner porosh moni.” Akhtar Kabir Chowdhury inaugurated the event. The YES members developed the production under the guidance and direction of Md. Towfiqul Islam, Programme Manager, Civic Engagement, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB). YES members Arif, Badsha, Jibon, Juwel, Jolly, Jabhed, Kaish, Lipi, Subrato, Salauddin, Suborna, Sharmin, Shushmita, Shrabanti, Pavel, Piyash organised the whole event successfully. The programme was coordinated by TIB officials Subinoy Dutta and Ahsan Ullah Chowdhury Mamun.
International IBSEN seminar 2009 held at JU

A three-day long International IBSEN seminar 2009 was recently held at the Senate Hall, Jahangirnagar University (JU). The theme of the seminar was 'Ibsen Through New Eyes: Religion and Freedom.' A total of 16 countries including Australia, Bangladesh, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Iran, Mexico, Morocco, Nepal, Norway, Pakistan, Turkey and USA participated in the programme. Educationalist Prof. Zillur Rahman Siddique was present as chief guest while H.E. Ingebjorg Stofring, ambassador of Royal Norwegian Embassy, Dhaka was present as the special guest in the inaugural session. Vice chancellor of JU Prof. Enamul Kabir delivered the welcome speech. Prof. Shafi Ahmed, Cordinator of International Ibsen Seminar and Theater Festival Dhaka, also spoke on the occasion. A total of three keynotes speeches will be presented at the seminar. A keynote speech titled “In and Out of Place: Three Asian Master Builders” was presented by Prof. Frode Helland, Director, Center for Ibsen Studies, University of Oslo, on the first day.
Cultural Week & Student's Day @ KYAMC
“Monushotter Monchayon Projonmer Sreshtho Projojona”-with this slogan in mind, the annual Cultural Week and Student's Day was celebrated by the students of KYAMC (Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College) from 14-20 November. The weeklong cultural festival featured performances by the students of KYAMC. The Student's Day was also held for the second consecutive year on 14 November. The day is reserved as a day of celebration of “Studentship” and recognition of the student's rights and their duties to society. A cultural committee headed by Dr. Ashim Kr. Sengupta organised the entire event.
