Scholarship Opportunity for Bangladeshis at Wisconsin, Madison, USA

THE College of Agricultural and Life Sciences of the University of Wisconsin at Madison and the Kamaluddin and Nahar Kamal Ahmad Foundation (Ahmad family) recently signed an agreement in Madison, Wisconsin to fund an all inclusive scholarship for Bangladeshi students to study toward a PhD in Biochemistry. The scholarship intends to fund one student, every three years, if such deserving and meritorious students are available for such pursuits. In other words, the scholarship is able to fund two students concurrently, after the initial three years period. The award is open to all Bangladeshis, preferably students who are graduates of Bangladeshi universities. The scholarship program is fully funded to continue in perpetuity.

The Kamaluddin Ahmad Distinguished Graduate Scholar Endowed Fund is established by Ahmad Family in partnership with the University of Wisconsin Foundation, to honour the legacy of Professor Kamaluddin Ahmad. Professor Kamaluddin Ahmad (Ph.D 1949), alumni of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, exemplified a life long contribution to building robust research institutes, nurturing scientists and teachers to invest their intellect for the betterment of humanity. Professor Kamaluddin Ahmad was the founder Chairman of the Departments of Biochemistry and Pharmacy and the Founder Director of the Institute of Nutrition at the University of Dhaka and Vice Chancellor of the former East Pakistan Agricultural University in Mymensingh.

The primary purpose of this funding is to provide scholarship to students in Bangladesh to attend graduate program (Ph.D.) at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. The Ph.D. program is designed to prepare students for successful careers in research, teaching, and science communication. It is expected that the students after completion of their doctoral degree will return to Bangladesh to serve for minimum of three years at a recognized academic and/or research institution.

The recipient of this scholarship must have at least three years of college or university education in technological or scientific fields from a recognized educational institution. The program will be open to all students irrespective of gender, creed, or disability.

The recipient must possess sufficient command of English language to participate in university studies.

The scholarship will pay the following:

*Round trip transportation between Bangladesh and Wisconsin

*Tuition at the University of Wisconsin

*Monthly stipend for living expenses
