A colourful evening at
William Carey Academy

Adnan Mannan

EVERY child has some talent. And if it is properly nourished they can show amazing creativity. Such creative performance has been observed recently at the Annual Talent Show of William Carey Academy, Chittagong. As a judge of this colorful event, I enjoyed it very much.

William Carey Academy, a reputed American School of Chittagong, follows the American curriculum and has 25 American teachers in the faculty role. Every year the school organises talent show, summer camp, concert and other creative functions. Recently they organised Annual Talent Show of Mid School at Chittagong Club Auditorium. It was really awesome and amazing. Students performed Dance, Song, Drama and Catwalk.

The programme started with a Rock n roll performance of two Anchors Ashfaq Rahman and Nayeem Alam. Then Marilou long, Administrative Director of the School presented Welcome Speech and introduced the judges. I was in the adjudicators panel with Dr. Dil Afroz Quader, Director, Access Academy, Asian University for Women, Christy Allen,an artist and interior designer of USA.

At first, there was a band performance “Kriptonite” by Jaffi, Nihal, Neel, Samuel. Then, a comedy drama “Diu diler milon” was performed by Abir, Akib, Asif, Anan, David, George and Tehjeeb. Aditi Saha presented a classical dance. After that, there was a skit in which a group dance “Panjabiwali” was performed by Khadija, Muntaha, Naomi, Prahelika, Saira, Subaha. The performers were dressed in attire of the sixties. The performers used various props and it was very enjoyable. Next item was a band performance “School life”. A different item was Singhaleese dance by Sucheta Wakwella. A very realistic drama was “Bidesy” by Rashed, Sam, Timothy. It had a message and the dialogues had depth. Then a group dance performance “Fantastic Four” was presented by Afia, Prema, Sreeparna, Reshma. It was based on traditional music. The little girls were very skilled and talented. Next item was a skit “Chumki Chump Show”. Another Band performance was “Off limits pieces”. Then there was a performance by defending champion Grace. Finally, the exciting moment came. It was the announcement of results. Panjabiwali-became the Champion. Skit “Boideshi” was the Runner Up performance and “Fantastic Four” achieved the third prize.

The programme ended for the day but every one went home with a sweet feeling and exciting memory.
