AIUB VC in South Korea and Vladivostok
The Vice chancellor of AIUB of Bangladesh DR Carmen Z. Lamagna and member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) attended the meeting of the council of senior advisors in Seoul Cyber University, South Korea on Sept 10th-11th, 2007 and Executive Committee in far eastern National University, Vladivostok, Russia on Sept 12th-13th, 2007.
The IAUP is an international forum for presidents, chancellor, vice chancellor and rectors of Universities, and other institution of higher learning around the world. Founded in Oxford in 1964 in the belief that the strengthening of Universal understanding represents one of the central challenges for education in every nation of the world. It provides a unique worldwide platform. It facilitates the exchange of professional experience through conferences, seminars, publications, working groups, commissions and with other projects.
Management Club of Department of Management Studies At Comilla University
With the slogan 'Exercise Your Mind and Make the Society Better and Smarter', Management Studies Department inaugurated the Management Club to promote extra curricular activities. Vice Chancellor Dr. Golam Mowlah attended the program as chief guest and Dr. Alya Mowlah, Department of Microbiology, University of Dhaka, attended the program as a special guest. Departmental Head Dewan Niamul Karim presided over the program. Convener of Management Club Md. Tazul Islam, University Acting Proctor Md. Abdul Hakim, and Assistant Professor M. M. Shariful Karim delivered speech in the program.
Seminar at Leading University
A seminar on ' Effective English Language Teaching in Bangladesh' was held at Rabey Khatun Chowdhury Auditorium of Leading University, Sylhet organized by Institute of English Language of the university. Professor Dr. Syed Manzoorul Islam of the English Department of Dhaka University presented the keynote paper in the seminar. Professor Islam put emphasis on combination of
'Grammar- Translation Method and Communicative Method' to learn English Language. The Prof. Islam, however, prioritized Bengali language to quicken the learning process of English language. Professor Dr. S.M. Abdul Khaleque , Chairman, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Sylhet and Md. Alamgir Taimoor, Assistant Professor, English Department, Shah Jalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet attended the seminar as speakers.
IUB Launches Theatre Club

Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) has proudly launched it first ever theatre club on the 12th of September 2007. The inaugural ceremony was held at Campus 5 and it went on for about an hour or so. Miss Farzana Hafiz opened the program with an introductory speech and then handed over the stage to the club's Chief Patron, Dr. G.M. Shahidul Alam. Dr. Shahidul Alam, jovial as always, was excited about this new club and he also mentioned some of the objectives of the club. He said that the club will stage at least more than two dramas in English and in Bangla outside of the two convocation dramas, hold periodic theatre workshops and arrange for an annual theatre festival participated by university drama clubs.
Miss Samina Lutfa and Mr. Kazi Faruque Ahmed are the advisors of the theatre club. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bazlul Mobin Chowdhury was also present at the ceremony and he too was called on stage to share this moment with the audience. He said that he was always looking forward to this day that IUB would start a theatre club and he also mentioned that he had played as a supportive role in his student days. Bubul Ahmed, Ahsan Ali Sydney and late Abdullah Yusuf were friends of Prof. Bazlul Mobin Chowdhury and he stated that he used to sit back during rehearsals because he had stage fright. He congratulated the members of the club and said that they have all his support. After that there an award ceremony for the students that performed in the plays 'Uncle Vanya' and 'Budo Shaliker Ghare Ro' where each student was presented with a certificate of appreciation.
Miss Farzana Hafiz wrote and directed a marvelous comic skit for the ceremony and it was the icing on the cake. It left the audience rolling with laughter and its end result was a huge load of applause. The program's photographer and camera man are members of the Film and Photography Club of IUB, which is chaired by Dr. G.M. Shahidul Alam and coordinated by Miss Farhana Afroz, Junior Lecturer, Department of Media and Communication.
Two workshops at Chittagong University

(1) To let the graduates know about the corporate world, Business Studies Development Programme(BSDP) organised a seminar on “Workshop on Job Searching, Cover Letter, CV Preparation and Winning Interview” was held at the Commerce Faculty Auditorium of CU on August 18, 2007.
The day long program started off at 10am in two sessions, discussion and presentation respectively. The workshop was open for all CU students who registered with Tk 100 as fee. Professor K M Golam Mohiuddin, Dean, Faculty of Commerce, presided over the session while Rtn. Tarique Hossain, PHF, DGM personnel, Eastern Refinery Ltd, Chittagong, Mr. Ahsan Ullah Khan, former AGM, HR & Admin, Ranks Telecom Ltd, Dhaka, Mr. A K M Mahmudul Hoque, Manager, HRD, Concord Group of Companies, Dhaka, spoke on the occasion.
(2) On August 19, Young Power In Social Action(YPSA) organized a seminar on 'Ship Breaking industry and its impact in Bangladesh' at Social Science Auditorium of CU. Eminent scientist Dr. Jamal Nazrul Islam was the
keynote speaker of the seminar while professor Dr. Gazi Saleh Uddin, professor Md. Slkander khan, professor Dr. Shopik Haider Chy, professor Dr. Md. Shairul Mashrek, professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan and professor Humayan Kobir spoke on the occasion.
Md. Arifur Rahman, executive director of YPSA, inaugurated the program and Md. Ali Shahin, program officer of YPSA, presented the report before the audience. The program was hosted by Mr. Amir Md. Nasrullah, assistant professor, public administration, CU.
