Charity Concert @ ULAB Reaching out to the Flood Affected

The 'Concert for the Flood Victims' on 11 August at University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh was an effort to raise funds and also to create mass awareness through music for the flood affected people of the country. The concert was organised in the university auditorium by all 14 clubs in ULAB and a students' publication called 'Liberal Youth'. Channel - i and Radio Today joined ULAB as media partners.

There was a crowd of more or less 300 people at ULAB to enjoy an attractive band line up like Dolchut, Hyder Husyn, Black, Shironaamhin, Arbovirus, Metalmaze, Mohakaal, Prachir, U-Turn, Fear and Rexup Avenue. But it came as a surprise to the audience when Prof. Imran Rahman sang two songs which were originally sung by the 'Beatles' and that really entertained the audience. Prof Imran, who is the Head of the Dept. of BBA at ULAB, is also a member of the famous Bangladeshi band 'Renaissance'.

Other than the students from many institutions in Dhaka, also the faculties of ULAB and many guests were present in the concert. Some of them came forward to participate in this charitable event with their donations. Mr. Ali Arsalan, Country Manager of Ecom Agro Industrial Corp. Ltd. donated Tk. 10,000 while Shamim, a Singapore-based Bangladeshi student, donated 100 US dollars.

The programme started off at 1.30 in the afternoon and continued till 8.30 in the evening. The audience was in a jovial mood throughout the afternoon dancing and singing with the songs like “din baari jae….”, “ ami faisa gechi…” “Haashimukh” “roder bhetor rode…” and many more. But the eyes of the same audience filled with water when the organizers showed a touching documentary on the ordeals of the flood affected people.

The proceedings of the event will be donated to the Thangamara Mohila Shamiti in Rangpur along with the money donated by the faculties at ULAB which is equivalent to their one day's salary. The campus publication 'Liberal Youth' also collected clothes for this purpose.
