IBA Communication Club Releases PolemicS

Abhishek Paul

The Institute of Business Administration Communication Club has published the second issue of 'PolemicS' the yearly publication of IBACC, on 12th August of this year in the grand dinner and award giving ceremony of IBA National English Debate Championship held at Radisson Water Garden Hotel, Dhaka. The theme for this issue was: “The Deformed Can Never Be Reformed”. This 72 page souvenir was a combined effort of all the members of IBACC to enhance the art of logic and argument.

The magazine starts with messages from the Vice-Chancellor of University of Dhaka Prof. S M A Faiz followed by messages from Prof. A F M Yusuf Haider (Pro Vice-Chancellor of University of Dhaka), Prof. Muhammad Ziaulhaq Mamun (Director, IBA), Mr. Syed Alamgir (Executive Director, ACI), Associate Prof. Syed Munir Khasru (Moderator, IBACC) and Mr. Shadman Sadikin (President, IBACC). The publication contains interviews of two of most prominent personalities of our country, Dr. Akbar Ali Khan and Dr. Muzaffar Ahmed, who shared some precious moment with us with their views and opinions mainly regarding reform issues. 'PolemicS' was also enriched by articles from the debating icons of our country. Chowdhury Abd-Allah Quaseed and Maskwaith Ahsan, two of these icons, through their articles, presented us a debate on the theme. Another legendary debater, Al-Mamoon provided us with invaluable remarks regarding the 1st issue of 'PolemicS', which we published last year. We must thank famous cartoonist Shahrier Khan from the Daily Star who provided us with an insightful cartoon based on the theme.

Current students of IBA also contributed to the magazine by sharing their success stories and experiences in both nationally and internationally held competitions. This year, for the first time, a new section named 'Young Voice' was introduced which reflects the opinions of young generation on different issues. Through his write-up, our honorable club moderator Syed Munir Khasru portrayed the analogy between debating and organizing. Our beloved president Shadman Sadikin and general secretary Morshed Ul Arefin jointly presented the activities of IBACC during last year in the club report. The editorial panel of IBACC shares their working experiences in the editors' corner section. The magazine ends with a short photo album regarding the various activities during the two national events and acknowledging the effort of the motivated workforce who sacrificed almost everything for organizing the event with such perfection.

Our special thanks go to our honorable faculties who supported us through the entire event with invaluable suggestions. We also thank ACI, Standard Chartered Bank and Warid Telecom for sponsoring the souvenir. I congratulate Morshed for designing the cover, which ensured the gorgeous outlook of the souvenir. We are grateful to Tushar for the most wonderful graphics work he applied through the entire magazine and Binimoy Printers, who took all the pressure to publish the souvenir in an unbelievably short notice.

I am absolutely grateful to my team members (Maliha, Joydeep, Zeeshan, Tamam, Sania and Shawon), who's dedication and effort successfully brought up the magazine. I express my humble apology for any unintended mistake we have done. We tried our level best to create an exclusive debate magazine. We will consider ourselves successful if 'PolemicS' can entirely satisfy the expectation of the respective readers.

(Editor, PolemicS
Vice-President, IBACC)
