Abu Darda
Student Quality Control Circle (SQCC) is a promising programme working on the development of the teachers as well as the students through a reputed organisation World Council for Total Quality and Excellence in Education (WCTQEE). The 9th International Convention was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka from 4th to 7th January 2007. Mia Md. Moniruzzaman, the Principal of Birshrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Rifles College, Peelkhana, Dhaka was the leader of our team that comprised 4 teachers and 12 students. The theme of the recently ended convention was to build Total Quality Person (TQP).
Sir Jagdish Gandhi, the chairman, organized the event. He also works as the Chairman of City Montessori School & Degree College, Lucknow, India. During the 4-day convention, speakers from different countries like India, the UK, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Mauritius, Germany and Bangladesh presented keynote papers. C. Athulathmudali from Sri Lanka was the convener of 9th ICSQCC. The opening ceremony was held at Bandaranayke Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) of Colombo while Dr. A. T. Ariyaratne, a nominee for noble prize from Sri Lanka, was the chief guest in the opening ceremony.
The aims of this convention are to promote Student Quality as an integral part of Total Quality Management (TQM) in education that shall develop attitude and skills among the students and enhance positive outlook towards quality and productivity. Moreover, students from different cultures, regions, religions, languages and colours came under the single umbrella to make a single globe by sharing and exchanging their views, ideas, knowledge etc. regarding unified education.
The most popular word of the convention was that a school must be the lighthouse (powerhouse) of a society to produce TQP. Say 'yes' for the children. Listen to what they want to say. Share and evaluate their ideas.
It is our pride that in Bangladesh, the ICSQCC was held in 2004 at Residential Model School and College, Dhaka. From this reference, Mrs. Qumrunnahar Khanam, Assistant Professor of Residential Model College, Dhaka was with us. The 10th ICSQCC will be held at Lucknow in India at the end of the current year. Dr (Mrs.) Vineeta Kamran has been nominated the convener. In this convention participant students will take part in 7 different streams like - Case study, Presentation, Collage competition, Debate competition, Poster and Slogan making, Skit competition, Quality quiz while the teachers may present papers.
The Bangladeshi team made a news by achieving the best cultural performance award in the 9th ICSQCC. This international recognition will encourage my students and colleague teachers to go further making ourselves as a TQP (Students and Teachers) and make a place for our institution as well.
