Maple Leaf students donate winter clothes to the poor

Redwan Islam Orittro

STUDENTS of Maple Leaf International School have donated thousands of winter clothes to the poor people of the country on 20 December 2009. The NGO 'Youth Against Hunger' will assist in the distribution of these clothes at Panchagarh and Jhenidah. Most of these underprivileged people of rural Bangladesh are stricken with extreme poverty and have no means to shield themselves from the biting cold.

The Maple Leaf Community Service Club (MLCSC), which comprise of A' Level students organized a similar programme last year as well. The students enthusiastically put up hand-drawn posters throughout school premises in order to motivate teachers and students to donate their old clothes. They arranged for large carton boxes near the entrance to each building for the collection of donated clothes. Altogether, six large cartons were donated.

A' Level students Shoaib Khan and Shaker Hossain served as project leaders, whilst other members: Abu Hanif, Zaher Hasan, Mehnaz, Golam Farhan, Shabnaz Zubaid, Lamia Hafiz, Joheb Hasan and Lamia Selim actively participated in making this programme a success. The club members extend their generous thanks to Zeba Ali, Principal of the school and Mohiuddin, Executive Administrator of the school for their guidance and support.

A Young Scientist Experiment

It is easy to draw a wrong conclusion

A policeman stops a motorcyclist.
"Why do you wear a woolen cap instead of a helmet?"
"For safety reasons".
"You must be joking!"
"Not at all! I conducted an experiment. I threw the cap and helmet from the tenth floor. The helmet broke into pieces but the cap didn't!"
