Going Back to History

Mushfeka Deeba

THE Department of Computer Science and Engineering, BUBT (University of Business and Technology) organised a study tour to the Courthouse in Comilla. Around 70 students accompanied by the teachers of the department participated in the tour. The students were filled with the anticipation of visiting a famous historical place.

Shalbon Buddha Bihar, one of the ancient civilizations of Bangladesh, is a renowned historical place where the old archeological remains of Lalmai-Moinamoti can be found. It is the twelfth archeological place of our country. It is situated near the series of hillocks of Lalmai, built around a spacious courtyard near the BARD campus. This is said to have been built by Sri Bhabadev, the fourth king of Dev dynasty, during the 7th and 8th century AD.

The central temple is in the middle of the Bihar area. There are 155 cells in the Bihar. A 8.5 feet width long-balcony is in front of the cells and at the end of it a low wall is seen. Each cell has three shelves on its wall. Oil lamps and idols of gods and goddesses were kept on these shelves. In ancient times Buddhist saints used to stay in these cells. A hall room is seen at the south-east corner of the main gate of the Bihar. With all its remains Shalbon Bihar is still attractive to the tourists.

Another attractive place in Comilla that the team visited is BARD (Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development). This is one of the educational institutions of Bangladesh, which is mainly used for conducting various types of project and research work as well as seminars, symposiums and training programmes. 'Nilachal' a mountainous area here, is a wonderful sight for tourists. In order to keep this BARD campus neat and clean the concerned authority also made some rules and regulations for the tourists.

After hanging around for some time the team returned to the BUBT Campus. The students and teachers of BUBT had a really great time filled with excitement.
