Industrial Training of EEE'06, IUT

THE EEE 06 batch of IUT recently had an industrial training at four different organizations. They were, Central Equipment Repairing Shop (CERS) at Tongi, The Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE) at Savar, Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) in Dhaka city and Ghorashal Power Station(GPS) at Polash, Norshingdi. The students who completed their 3rd year went to the training on 24 October. The total number of students was divided into four groups. Each group was assigned with its own respective group leader and teacher. The groups visited all four places alternately for a week.

At CERS the EEE students were introduced with different kinds of transformers, their tests, faults and the process of repairing them. Beside the practical demonstration, the tour included daily lectures by the 'teachers' (well they were more like employees assigned to teach us but that does not, in any respect, wane the proficiency portrayed by them while teaching us). All of these meant that the students accrued vast knowledge regarding the particular subject.

Followed by CERS was a tour at the Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE) at Savar that, too, proved to be a great learning experience for the students. Before arriving at AERE nuclear power plants it was only a debate issue found in news headlines. But watching such a plant up close literally gave us goose bumps!! The mere fact that Bangladesh was investing such large amounts of money for research propositions thrilled us to no end. Not only were the teachers over there cooperative, they made the whole journey all the more enjoyable with their prompt attention to our queries and the interesting facts they provided us from time to time along the tour.

The second last week included a tour to the Telecommunication backbone of the country, BTCL that was formerly known as Bangladesh Taar o Telephone board (BTTB). The weeklong visit, beside the usual drills allowed us to see the satellite earth station at Mohakhali, Data and Internet exchange at Moghbajar. And just when we were about to stop to take a breather, they let us on the best surprise of the tour-the splicing machine.
