DRISHTY Chittagong Presents “Mutual Trust Bank The Daily Star Debate Contest 2009” commenced on 12th of July 2009, and was ongoing till 18th of July, 2009. This year the legendary battle of minds in Chittagong also celebrated its 17th year of successful debating. This year, the contest was sub-divided into three well-anticipated competitions organized by Drishty Chittagong, 17th inter-school, 2nd children and 6th inter-varsity debating championships. The Editor of Daily Star Mahfuz Anam inaugurated the contest at Theatre Institute of Chittagong. Special guests present at the ceremony were Resident Editor of The Daily Prothom Alo Abul Momen, Chittagong District Commissioner Farid Ahmed Chowdhury, Managing Director of Equity Property Management Ltd. Dr. Kazi Ainul Hoque, Agrabad In-Charge of Mutual Trust Bank Nazrul Islam and Bureau Chief of ATN Bangla Ali Abbas.

The inter-school debate championship was introduced with the very first year of the establishment of this annual tournament. This year, sixteen institutions attended the inter-school championship.

The 2nd children debate has been an addition to the contest since last year. Owing to its huge popularity, it has been added again this year, with ten schools to compete this year.

Along with these institutions, 12 universities from Dhaka and Chittagong attended the 6th Inter-Varsity championship.

For a successful completion of the contest, a committee consisting of 31 Drishty members was formed. It was headed by Drishty Vice-President Rashedul Amin. The coordinator was Shahidul Islam, and the sub-coordinators were Afsana Rahman Toma and Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, members, Drishty Chittagong. Associate sponsor of the competition was Equity Property Management Ltd., and the media partners were Radio Foorti and ATN Bangla.
