Cyber Battle '09
Biggest Gaming Event of Sylhet

Md. Sadat Hussein Khan Sayem

BANGLADESH has been participating in the World Cyber Games since 2005. And this year at WCG 2009 Asian Championship, Bangladesh got its highest achievement so far by entering the quarter final stage. As countries around the world compete in the field of multiplayer gaming, Bangladesh is not far away from catching up.

What we need is to promote more and more multiplayer gaming nationwide to reveal and enhance the potential of Bangladeshi gamers. Hence, the Department of CSE, Sylhet Engineering College, gave a unique opportunity to the game aficionados of Sylhet to demonstrate their gaming potential. CSE organised Cyber Battle '09 gaming tournament for the first time in Sylhet, with a motto to bring out the best gamers of Sylhet. Since WCG events were never organised in Sylhet, the gamers here were very excited to play in an event where they could prove themselves. With the help of the CSE Society of Sylhet Engineering College and lots of dedicated volunteers, the dream came into light. Two popular games Fifa 2009 and Need For Speed Most Wanted were played in the tournament. Both games were played on one to one knockout method where the winner is qualified to the next stage. WCG rules were followed for both of the games throughout the tournament.

More than one hundred gamers participated in this day long Cyber Battle '09. It was a huge turnout and the responses were overwhelming. With a huge projector screen and large speakers at gaming room, the environment was breathtaking. Both the final matches of Fifa 2009 and NFS Most Wanted were spectacular sights. Md. Rahat Hussein Khan, student of class 9, became the champion of NFS Most Wanted and Md. Rashedul Hassan, student of CSE became the champion of Fifa 2009. The other runners up were, Plabon and Arifur Rahman Apu, students of CSE.

The prizes of Cyber Battle '09 were sponsored by a local computer shop - Garden Café & Gaming Zone.
