“We Can” CUDS 5th thematic Workshop 2008

Chitttagong University Debating Society (CUDS) organized an intensive debate workshop on 23-31 March, 2008 in association with YAPSA & Oxfam GB. The debate workshop continued for 8 consecutive days. The aim of this program was to seek new debaters for the society. But this year CUDS extended its debate workshop for one day for school students to teach them about various dimensions of debating. The inauguration ceremony of the debate workshop started off at 10 am and it was presided over by the CUDS advisor Dr. Yahyah Akter, professor, department of Political Science, CU while CUDS advisor Soaib Ryad, Director, MEB group, CUDS president M A Samad Hemal, general secretary Mostafa Al-Mamun and joint secretary Bodruduzzah Jewel spoke on the occasion. The session was hosted by CUDS member Zinia Akter.
After the completion of inaugural ceremony CUDS president M A Samad Hemal took a class on parliamentary debate where he highlighted definition, case strategy and case split of the debate. Since it was thematic workshop several specialist took classes on different issues like political culture, world economy, philosophy, international relation, human rights and so on.
On 28th March the debate workshop went to Government Muslim Highschool where 150 students from 14 schools took part. CUDS moderator Dr. Mahbubul Haq presided over the inaugural ceremony of school debate workshop.
In the morning session CUDS members staged a demo parliamentary debate titled, “Government should support Tibet”. After lunch break, CUDS general secretary Mostafa Al-Mamun took the class on different formats of the debate and CUDS planning secretary Jewel Chy. took the class on logic and rebuttal.
In the afternoon CUDS ex-president Tazul Islam took the class on pronunciation and body language. Later ex-president of IUT debating club Mabroor Wassy took the class on world format debate. On the closing day i.e. 31st March, ex BDF president Bulbul Hasan and present BDF secretary Sajib Shah took the class on parliamentary debate.
