A debating society is always a source of life and creativity wherever you go around the world. BIT KHULNA Debating Society was launched on 16th of January 2002. Professor Dr. Md. Alamgir started the proceedings of BKDS in an effort to lead the path of creativity and cultural activities. We also recall some progressive students like Atikur Rahman Chapal, Ferdous Ahmed Himu, Kollol Kumar, Afrin, and Hasina, who were among the founding members of KDS.
REGENERATION:
With acceptance of all the members, advisors and moderators, BKDS was renamed on 29th September 2003 as KDS (KUET Debating Society).
1st KHULNA DIVISION DEBATING WORKSHOP:
Back in 2003-2004, KDS arranged a debating workshop for the first time in Khulna in collaboration with The Daily 'PROTHOM ALO'. 150 students from 20 schools and colleges took part in this workshop. In this workshop, Anirban Bhoumik from Economics Department of Dhaka University spoke onConventional and Parliamentary debating. Types of debate, and implementation of parliamentary debate were some important concerns of the speech made by former president of BUET debating club, Adil Iftekhar. Vice president of BUET debating club Moidul Azam discussed the rules and regulations of formal debating. S.H.M Fakhruddin, the founder VP of BKDS, also shared his views on conventional debate. Writer and Assistant Editor of The Daily Prothom Alo, Mr. Anisul Haque, was the special guest in the closing ceremony.
SOUTH-EAST REGIONAL DEBATING WORKSHOP:
2005-2006 was the busiest time in KDS history. This year, KDS arranged a debating workshop for the second time in Khulna in collaboration with national daily 'PROTHOM ALO' and 'KHULNA POWER SUPPLY Limited. Abdur Noor Tushar, famous TV host and founder chairman of BDS (Bangladesh Debate Federation), was the main speaker, accompanied by Bulbul Hasan, current Chairman of BDS.
INTER UNIVERSITY DEBATING COMPETITION(05-06 KUET):
In 2005-2006 KDS arranged an inter-university debating competition for the first time. Ten universities took part in this memorable event, in which DU came first.
INTER UNIVERSITY DEBATING COMPETITION(05-06 SHER-E-BNAGLA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY):
KDS came first in the Debating competition held in Sher-E-Bangla Agricultural University. Debating Clubs from more than 25 universities, both private and public, participated in the event.
DEBATING COMPETITION WITHIN THE UNIVERSITY:
KDS arranges a debating competition within KUET every year. Inter-hall Debating competition 2003, 2004, 2005 were some events successfully organized by KDS. Debating competition on special occasions like Victory Day, Independence Day, University Day are also common.
KUET Debating Society is determined to step forward to up hold it pride in the upcoming years.
