The Department of Business Administration (DBA), Jahangirnagar University, the pioneer business school in introducing the 4-year BBA program in Bangladesh organized a daylong seminar entitled “PATHWAY TO CAREER DEVELOPMENT” at Jahangirnagar University Central Auditorium on 07 April 2007.

Professor Khandaker Mustahidur Rahman, the honorable Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, was present in the seminar as chief guest and inaugurated the seminar. In his speech the VC said the graduates of DBA have achieved fame by effectively performing in different national and multinational organizations. Professor Amin Muhammad Ali, honorable Dean of Social Science Faculty, JU was the special guest in the seminar; Mohammad Nazmul Islam, Student Conselor DBA, JU and Kamrul Arefin, Chairman of DBA, JU also addressed the inaugural session.

The seminar encompassed three keynote presentations by experts form the business arena. In the first session, a keynote presentation on “Career Planning” was presented by Mr. M. Zulfiquar Hussain, Director of Human Resource at Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Ltd. Professor Amin Muhammad Ali presided over this session. Mr. Hussain discussed the proper steps towards effective career planning.

In the second session, a presentation on “Adapting with the Job Environment” was presented by Mr. Monjurul Alam Jewel, Head of Human Resource Services at Eastern Bank Ltd. while Mr. Mohammad Farhad Hossain, Associate Professor of DBA, presided over this session. Mr. Alam emphasized on attitude and also discussed the importance of understanding the culture of an organization.

Mr. Golam Kabir , Director of Human Resources with Kallol Group of Companies and Advisor and OD of Navana Group, spoke on “Facing the Interview” in the third and last session. K. M. Zahidul Islam, Lecturer, DBA presided over this session. Mr. Kabir has discussed about the Dos, Don'ts and common mistakes regarding interviews.

Each of the presentations was followed by interactive question and answer sessions. The experts answered different questions from the audience and eliminated the participants' confusion regarding the respective topics.

Around 300 students from different departments of JU attended the seminar, which offered the imminent graduates opportunities to gear up for their career and develop knowledge and competencies that they will need in effectively planning their careers, searching for jobs, preparing for interviews and selecting suitable jobs.
