Pohela Boishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year, not only celebrates a new beginning, but also inspires everyone to wipe out the mistakes of the previous year and come up with a fresh start with better aspirations. With these kinds of thoughts in mind, we, the students of Department of Finance, University of Dhaka, organized a Boishakhi Fair at the premises of the MBA building of Faculty of Business Studies on Pohela Boishakh. All the funds collected from the fair were donated to Society for Welfare of Intellectual Disabled Bangladesh (SWID). It was for the first time that this sort of fair was arranged at the Faculty of Business Studies, so it created a lot of enthusiasm among the students.

Our 6th semester has just begun, the pressure of studies was not as much of, and all in all it was the perfect time to organize such an endeavor. Among the organizers were Ariff, Tasnia, Istiaque, Monty, Tanaka, Rasel, Sonia, Ehsan, Rania, Mokta, Rubaiyat, Mizan, Hasan and me. As students, we had to work heart and soul to arrange financial help and the other arrangements of the fair.

A total number of 15 stalls were placed in the fair. Among these were stalls for food, clothes, handicrafts, traditional artifacts and amusement items. Aktel, Reckitt Benckiser, Nescafe, BD Foods and Project Bangladesh were some of the eminent organizations who provided us with tremendous support in every possible way. All of the stalls attracted equal amount of response among the spectators. Traditional items were sold at a large amount, along with food items. As the organizers, we had a stall of our own where the ethnic products of our country were sold. We arranged traditional amusement items (i.e., Nagordola) which also attracted a huge number of crowds. Our Faculty just became so lively because of such an arrangement, which brightened the celebration of the Bengali New Year to a great extent.

The arrangement of this fair would not have been possible without the immense support of Prof. Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, the Dean of Faculty of Business Studies and Mahmood Osman Imam, the Chairman of the Department of Finance, University of Dhaka. The entire Faculty has encouraged us a lot throughout this effort. Our friends and classmates gave us fabulous support through out the arrangement of the fair. We want to specially thank Adnan, Liton, Rifat, Mithila, Raju, Imran, and for their support and encouragement.

The Boishakhi Fair was organized to serve a charitable cause, which has inspired us to engage ourselves in this type of effort in future also. We want to continue our effort to work for the deprived people of our society and serve the nation within our capabilities.
