Pahela Baisakh at CUET

Pahela Baisakh festival was something unknown a few years ago in Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET) campus. But after the change, CUET students are trying to make the campus as an ideal university campus. And it was amply reflected when we celebrated Bangla noboborsho (New Year) 1414 on 14 April.

That was an excellent and charming day-long program, especially for the new comers (2006 batch) of the university. All the cultural organizers of CUET got together to celebrate Bangla New Year and brought out a morning rally singing`esho ha baisakh.……………..' Professor Dr. Shyamal Kanti Biswas inaugurated the rally.

After the rally we all got together to eat `Pantha ellish', which is the tradition of the Bangalis. `Pantha ellish' was arranged by Green For Peace & CUET Photography and Adventure Club.

Then all of the students sat around in groups for `adda', and singing songs. Then there was debate, jokes and so on. What was not there in the `adda'? The organizer of this event was CUET Debating Society (CUETDS).

In the afternoon, in the central field of CUET a `Kite Festival' was organized by CUETDS and Joyadhoni. The vice-chancellor of CUET professor Dr. Mir Shahidul Islam inaugurated the festival.

1st Baishakh 1414 at Faculty of Business Studies, DU

Shuvo Noboborsho to all. Shushagotom 1414, biday 1413. By bidding goodbye to the 1413, Bengali New Year 1414 comes into being.

Students from Faculty of Business Studies organised several programmes for Pohela Baishakh in a grand manner in the Faculty premises. Department of Marketing alongwith Department of Finance organized several programmes to celebrate Bengali New Year in the Faculty premises.

Students from the 11th batch of the Department of Marketing has successfully organised a cultural event with the help of Pran Group to welcome the Bengali New Year. The programme started with grand rally starting from the Faculty premises. A large number of students of the department, with an elephant and several Tomtoms, participated in the procession. It rounded the whole campus and it ends after reaching into the Faculty.

The cultural programme started by lighting the Mangal Deep. Prof. M. A. Quddus, senior most Faculty of Department of Marketing has lighted the Mangal Deep. Prof. Dr. Haripada Bhattacharjee, Chairman of Department of Marketing, along with many teachers of the department, was also present at that time. Later on in his speech Prof. Bhattarcharjee thanked the students for organising such attractive programme. He also wished Shuvo Nobobarsho to the students and the persons present there. There are the arrangements of Panta Illish for the people present there.

Later on, the students performed song, play, and classical dance to entertain the crowd. There are game shows to amuse the audience to taste the flavor of Pohela Baishakh. The crowds were enjoying every bit of performance performed by the students.

The main attractions were yet to come in front of the people out there. In the evening, several Close Up 1 stars named Nolok, Rinku, Mehrab, Putul and Abid came to add fragrance in the cultural programme. They have performed number of songs to amuse the crowd. The whole Faculty premises were full to the brim. It seemed that it turned out as a sea of persons. They laughed, danced, sang, screamed and shout with the performers. As the day progressed the crowd of people extended with a never-ending energy level.
