The number of acid victims is increasing alarmingly in Bangladesh. The harm that acid can do is so horrifying that it is quite impossible to express it in any language. Acid victims are suffering and their sorrows know no bound. What can we do to assist them so that they can lead a slightly better life?

With that question in mind a number of organisations and individuals have come forward to assist those unfortunate souls. In this regard student community is also not lagging behind as students are aware of their social responsibilities. With this noble thought in mind, the students of 11th batch of the Department of Marketing, Dhaka University, recently organised a Charity Film Show '07 in order to raise money to give to the funds of the acid victims. It was a three-day long event held on March 10, 11 and 12. The films were shown in the seminar room of Faculty of Business Studies in Dhaka University.

Tickets were sold at the Faculty of Business Studies (FBS). The response from the students was more than expected. Alongside students, people from all walks of life showed their positive responses to this programme.

Pran Group sponsored the charity Show. They did their best to help the students to organise such a programme. The group provide banners, posters, projector and sound system in order to successfully conduct the film show. Besides, they also provide free sample of their products with every ticket sold.

Abid Shahriar, one of the organisers of the program (11th Batch of Department of Marketing) said, “We had no prior experience of organising such an event. But we were confident that we would be able to do it. We are grateful to our Chairman Sir, Dean Sir, staff of the Department & Faculty. We are also thankful to Pran Group and The Daily Prothom Alo for their continuous support. The money will be donated to the Prothom Alo Fund for Acid Victims.”

Professor Dr. Md. Serajul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies commented: “It is very encouraging that students take such a nice effort to assists the acid victims. I personally appreciate their cooperation in this regard. I want to thank the Pran Group for extending their help to assist the students in such a noble cause. We shall cooperate with the students if they undertake such programme in the future.”

Professor Dr. Haripada Bhattacharjee, Chairman, Department of Marketing: “It is surely a nice approach towards helping the acid victims. It is good to see the students involving themselves in this. The department encourages students to undertake such programmes. I thank the Pran Group for their cooperation.”
