BioTech- A rhythm in Khulna University

Khulna University belongs to the southern region of Bangladesh, the region that can boast of having the largest mangrove forest in the world, 'Sundarban', on its south flank. It is the only public university in Bangladesh that is free from the misery of student politics and session jams, and tries to ensure a dynamic academic environment all around. Due to the considerable distance from the capital city, it never gets adequate exposure about its glorious achievements. Nevertheless, this University holds a distinguished position all over the country as far as providing quality graduates is concerned.

I strongly recommend you to take the chance of visiting Khulna if you ever get it. Here you can enjoy the experience of a small but organized and energetic bunch of students gracing the campus. In addition to academic activities, students are also engaged with various nonpolitical organizations. As soon as you arrive at the campus you can feel the rhythm of life in a flavor of its own. Don't forget to have a cup of tea at 'Tappan Da'r Cha'er Dokan' and feel the bonds of friendship and above all the vibration of young spirits. It may even make you nostalgic for a while.

Your curiosity might be aroused upon seeing posters, and even some students wearing T-shirts, with the word BioTech written on it. You may wonder, what is this BioTech? It is nothing but a science-based organization of the students of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Discipline (BGE). Don't start feeling bored at the mention of a science organization. BioTech wants to mobilize the students in such a way that they can approach and utilize the world of science in their very own way. Its vision is to disseminate the difficult issues of science in a lucid manner. The BioTech members share their views on contemporary science issues and hold discussions among each other on a regular basis. It is not like a formal discussion and should probably be labeled as a science adda. Anyone is cordially invited to join the adda and share his or her thoughts. Sometimes the adda brings out new dimensions. All these discussion and brainstorming becomes even more amusing the occasional cup of tea refuels the science adda. To promote its vision, BioTech organizes various workshops, seminars and competitions and has been doing so ever since its establishment. Recently, in co-operation with BGE Discipline, BioTech organized a seminar entitled “Our technology-Our freedom” where eminent gene scientist Dr Abed Chowdhury enriched the event by his keynote speech. So far, BioTech has taken various enthusiastic initiatives and the publication of quarterly science magazine 'BioTech' is the most innovative of these. The magazine is published in Bengali with the intention to spread knowledge of and interest about Biotechnology into the different strata of society. BioTech wants to create a rhythm in the science conscious reader's mind for the sake of national development. Meanwhile, BioTech has already become the rendezvous of the students of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Discipline. The previous two issues of the magazine stirred up inspiration and readers' acclamations, which proved that BioTech is on the right track to its destination. Moreover, BioTech expects are constantly exchanging ideas and views with students from different universities. Students should engage in efforts to convey the mysteries of science to the mass people and this is only possible by engaging ourselves in science adventures. It is really appreciable that Daffodil International University recently organized its 1st Science Olympiad on 10th November, in which different universities from across the county participated. So, dear readers you are always welcome to have a cup of tea with BioTech and share the vibration and feelings of young minds.
