BUET Drama Society
Gazi Mostafa Huda
There can be no doubt BUET is the best educational institution in Bangladesh. BUET graduates have done some outstanding research and are doing prestigious jobs around the world. Prestigious, in our country, Buetians could not contribute as much as is expected from the students of a world-class institution. BUET does have the likes of an Anisul Huq, an Aupi Karim or a Badhon of close-up1 but they are few in number. However, recently things have changed a lot. Now this prestigious university does not only produce studious students who always want to move to Europe-America and settle there. Nowadays they do think about the development of the system. Almost every department has brilliant researchers who carry on their research without any backing from the authority. There are many groups who are eagerly doing extra-curricular activities such as Badhon, Murchona, the BUET Drama Society and Photographic society etc. Among them as the organizing secretary I would like to shed some light on our drama society. Since its establishment this group has had five productions. They are: BURO SHALIKER GHARE ROW, SOLUTION X, DHOR-MUNDOR AGAPASTALAR KISSA, and EBONG BIYE. The society also arranged a seven-day workshop where we invited celebrity alumni like architect and reciter Kazi Arif as well as stars like Shimul Yousuf,Ali Zaker, S.M.Mohsin, our chemistry teacher Dr. Enamul Huq, Lubna Mariam. We also had a very special guest who was the director of all the dramas mentioned - Kazi Chapal, our dearest chapal bhai. Having completed these workshops, we staged three plays: KAMALAKANTER JABANBONDI, PUSHPA ASCHE, and ONOSTITTER UPOKOTHA.
The last two were written and we directed all of them. Our actors are performing well in professional theater too. Masud bhai, who is now a mechanical engineer at OTOBI, has been acting for a long time in DHAKA PODATIK. Under supervision of our respected teacher Prof. Dr Nizamuddin Siddique, we are now rehearsing for our new project CHOKHE ANGUL DADA, which is likely to be staged in the first or second week of December. The play is directed by our Masud bhai. You all are invited to the BUET auditorium. Our future plan is to host a Drama Festival where we would invite teams from Jahangirnagar, Dhaka University and others. We have some huge plans regarding BARSHABARAN and other stuff. We are also seriously thinking about staging our play at some venue outside BUET, maybe in Shilpokala Experimental Theater. We always like to dream; it might not come true but at least we can tell ourselves that we tried our best.
