State-of-the-art technology and facilities in AIUB

In science and engineering educatin it is indispensable for the students to enjoy modern hi-tech infrastructure and facilities in order to nourish their inner possibilities. Nowadays our students are more cautious about their career and those who have the opportunity and financial capability leave this land with a vision to get better education in a developed country. But the remaining portion of the student community stay back with our conventional educational system and they require more incentives to upgrade their level and cope up with challenge of this digital age. Introduction of private universities added a new dimension and changed the academic trend in our society. Today, we have more than fifty private universities and nearly sixty thousand students study there. Definitely it is a handsome figure in terms of student enrollment.

American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) takes pragmatic steps to ensure best quality education and it is an ideal place for modern education. AIUB has always believed that investment in technology and other infrastructure and facilities is a necessity, and can give it the competitive edge. Therefore, AIUB has made sustained investment in developing its infrastructure and facilities.

Computer Science department of AIUB is considered a landmark of modern computer based education. Currently it has seven computer labs comprising almost 300 workstations actively running on different platforms (Windows 2000, Linux, AIX- OS/400). One lab is dedicated for Java and is equipped with 40 Sun Ray-150 with Sun Fire V250 JES Server. Another lab is dedicated for Sun Solaris training and is equipped Sun Blade 150 and Sun Java Workstation 1100z. The server room is equipped with the latest mid range and mini computer servers such as AS/400e series, Sun Fire V440, Micron HP LH6000, Micron MV 5000, IBM RS/6000 E30 & E20, micron HP LH3000, and Micron Vetix EL2000N used for different purposes. AIUB has launched Mail, Web, FTP, and Proxy server using its own servers. AIUB also has its own VSAT, bandwidth 768/384 Kbps full duplex SCPC connection (with Singtel), which makes information sharing and data management much faster than ever before. AIUB has its full fledged operational website (www.aiub.edu) where students register for courses, take online quiz, check their grades, download course materials and assignments etc. In addition to these, AIUB has a rich language lab, Internet access and multimedia facilities in all classrooms.

Engineering department is another strong wing of AIUB family. Well-equipped engineering laboratories create ample opportunity for the students to develop their practical knowledge. Presently AIUB has installed 17 engineering labs namely, Analog Electronics Lab, Circuit Lab, Computer Networking & CSA Lab, Control System Lab, Digital Electronics Lab, DSP Lab, Machine Lab, Measurement & Instrumental Lab, Microcomputer Lab, Microprocessor Lab, Microwave Engineering Lab, Motor Trans. Winding Repair Shop, PCB Etching Room, Power Electronics Lab, Telecommunications Lab, and VLSI Lab. The university is using microwave link for connecting science and engineering building.

AIUB library provides excellent collection of books, online journals, periodicals, CDs, video covering more than 80 academic areas. At present the library posses 24000 books and has a student sitting capacity of more than 250.

AIUB believes that in-house innovation and development in technology can keep AIUB unique from other educational institutes. Some of the software that has been developed by the IT department is Library System, Payroll System, Student Registration and Management System. Students from science and engineering department recently created robotic arm, SMS controlled vehicle, Tele-remote technology as part of their academic curriculum. Beside these AIUB regularly organises and participate programming contest, software competition in order to enrich the potentiality of the students.

AIUB offers Cisco courses like CCNA, and HP IT essentials. It also offers Microsoft IT Academy programme. Under this scheme, AIUB will be offering world class international certifications on MCSE, MICSD, MSITP, MCPD etc. Beyond the regular academic courses AIUB also offers Japanese language course for its students. AIUB publishes its two internationally reputed journals AJSE and AJBE in order to encourage the faculties and students in research activities.
