An eventful summer semester in AIUB

The American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) in its continued effort of excellence in leadership education passes through its summer semester with remarkable achievements. Besides the ongoing projects, the AIUB faculty of business organized the international seminar on Small Enterprise Development and the Vice Chancellor of AIUB attended the Executive Committee meeting of the International Association of University Presidents held in Vienna, Austria. The following gives a detail of those events and many more.

AIUB held a lecture series in honour of its founder, Dr. Anwarul Abedin. Four of these lecture sessions were held within this summer in which various dignitaries in the field of business presented their ideas and shared their learnings on different aspects of the business world. The speakers of the lecture series include Dr. Wolfgang Vollmann, UNESCO representative in Bangladesh, Mr. Sayeeful Islam, Managing Director of the Concorde Garments Group and immediate past president of DCCI, Mr. Syed Akhtar Hasan Uddin, HR manager of HSBC and Mr. A K M Shamsuddin, Chairman and CEO of E-Zone Limited.

One of the major events held this summer was the AIUB Job Fair, held from June 7th to June 10th, 2006 in which the students had the opportunity to learn about CV writing, facing interviews and develop many other skills required in their professional lives directly from highly distinguished individuals in the field of business in Bangladesh. Apart from these lectures and workshops the main event of the Job Fair was held on the 10th where thirty three participating companies decorated their stalls within the university campus to receive CVs from the students and graduates of AIUB.

A seminar was held which focused on enhancing the research capabilities of the faculty and to explain and illustrate the value of qualitative research development, it was organized by the faculty of the faculty of Business of AIUB. The speakers on this event were Assistant Professor Mr. Nisar Ahmed and Assistant Professor Mr. Mehedi Hasan

Four of the final year students of AIUB Electrical & Electronic Engineering department, Md. Safiqul Islam, Md. Rezaul Haque, A.K.M. Nazmul Hasan and Mizanur Rahman built a robocar as part of their course, project & thesis. This car was displayed on television and the audience applauded as it moved around with full functionality. The car is capable of sensing obstacles infront or aside it and change its direction of motion towards an obstacle free path.

The international seminar on Small Enterprise Development was organized by AIUB in its pursuit of excellence in education and research and economic development of Bangladesh. The seminar drew international scholars from Thailand and Sweden who presented papers on small enterprise models and experiences.

AIUB and BJIT Limited jointly organized a seminar on embedded programming titled “Prospects of Embedded Programming” at the AIUB auditorium. Pro-Vice Chancellor of AIUB Prof. Dr. Tafazzal Hossain formally opened the seminar while Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain, Advisor, Faculty of Science, AIUB stated the present trend of embedded programming and presented relevant valuable information. Keynote speaker of the seminar AKM Ahmedul Islam, COO. BJIT Limited analyzed the prospects of embedded programming in our country as well as in the global perspective.

After this session a multimedia session was conducted by the Manager of BJIT Limited, where he basically highlighted the applications of embedded programming Faculty members from different departments and students of different disciplines also attended the occasion.

AIUB also participated in an Education Fair held in Chittagong from July 24 to July 26.
