Road accidents kill 6


At least six people were killed in separate road accidents in Sirajganj, Comilla and Brahmanbaria yesterday.

BSS from Sirajganj adds: Three of a family were killed when a truck crushed them under its wheel at Mirpur Road in the town, police said.

The dead were identified as Laila, 26, her daughter Chaity, 6, and sister Lovely, 16.

Police said the accident took place when a Dhaka-bound truck from Sirajganj hit a rickshaw coming from the opposite direction, leaving them dead on the spot.

Police seized the truck but the drivers managed to flee immediately after the accident.

A case was filed with Sirajganj Police Station in this connection.

A correspondent from Comilla reports: Two passengers of a tempo were killed and four others injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Kalakochua in Burichang upazila yesterday.

The deceased were identified as Rabindra Chandra Shil, 40, of Jangalia village in Sadar Dakshin upazila and Kala Mia, 30, Shahaduolatpur village in Burichang upazila.

Police said the accident occurred at about 8.30am when a Companyganj-bound passenger bus hit a Comilla-bound tempo, leaving two passengers dead on the spot and 4 others injured.

The serious injured were rushed to upazila health complex.

Our correspondent from Brahmanbaria says: One person was killed in a road accident at Khalpar Road at Sadar upazila headquarters yesterday.

The victim was identified as Muslim Mia, 32, son of Makbul Hossain of Char-Islampur village under Sadar upazila.

Witnesses and police said the accident occurred when Muslim Mia was crossing a road in the town. A truck crushed him under the wheels, leaving him dead on the spot.

Police seized the truck but driver and helper managed to escape.
