Traffic snarl-up at Gulshan Circle 2
No zebra crossing, road divider poses danger

The Gulshan circle 2 has become notorious for traffic congestion apparently because of the ignorance of drivers.For residents who try to cross from one end to the other near the circle, it is fast becoming a living nightmare. There is a by-lane on the left within 150 yards of the roundabout on all the four roads leading to it. But those roads are not in use due to illegal car parking. The pressure on the main roads is therefore evident during peak hours. There are also no zebra crossings on the adjoining roads of the roundabout. Therefore pedestrians have to cross the circle by putting their lives at risk. "Sometimes we have to wait almost 10 to 15 minutes to cross the road and that too with vehicles moving at speed," said a commuter. The condition of the road dividers is also engraving the problem as their iron bars are damaged or ripped off at places. "This type of dividers can cause accidents," said another commuter. The absence of zebra crossings and traffic signals means that the motorised vehicles do not stop near the roundabout. Children, women and the elderly sometimes have to request the traffic police to help them cross.
