Govt decision against Poush Mela protested

Artists, intellectuals and journalists yesterday condemned and protested the government decision not to allow the Poush Mela Udjapan Parishad (PMUP) to celebrate Poush Mela ((winter fair)) at Ramna Batamul like previous years. In a press release, Dr Anisu-zzaman, convenor of the PMUP, organiser of the fair, termed the decision illogical, saying the fair never created any noise pollution. The fair has become popular in the last five years, the press release added. Among others, poet Shamsur Rahman, singer Kalim Sharafi, painter Quaiyum Chowdhury, actor and politician Asaduzzaman Noor, journalist Wahidul Haq and playwright Mamunur Rashid signed it.
