Going through the 'Star Campus' of January 27th; I was very impressed by Sabhanaz Rashid Diya's piece titled "my Pink Converse'. Today the would-be pilot, is piloting the '1 degree initiative'. It should encourage our restless and restive young, of how an initiative followed through with persistence brings satisfying results!
I wish the group piloting the '1 degree initiative', be an encouragement to others for having initiative; and go ahead, supported by faith and hard work, as set out in the essay. Let there be many more projects like the tube well in Sirajganj. After all 'drops of water and drops of sand; make the mighty ocean and the pleasant land'!
I wish the Foundation good luck and God speed, in their work; helping the needy people of Bangladesh!
Realising the value of education

Education is the back bone of a nation—everyone has heard of this proverb. But nowadays I sometimes wonder about the meaning of Education. Does education refer to the percentage of pass in the exam or the number of getting GPA 5 in the exam? Present government is trying heart and soul to increase the number of success in the public exams. They have added two new public exams in our education system. But did they think about the mental strength of such young students of class Five. Are they capable of taking such pressure? Pressures from study eat up all the leisure time that students should have. I understand that teachers are advised to grade the exam papers very generously. The curriculum is changing rapidly, apparently, to eliminate the business of coaching centres. However, many teachers actually establish their own coaching centres to earn quick money. Just like our honourable Prime Minister, we would also not like to see any failures in the public exams? However, to do that, we have to train the teachers properly and ensure a fun environment for our student

For the sake of society
Violence against women has become a common practice nowadays. Recently, the recurring incidents of gang rapes all over the subcontinent have caught the attention of the people all across the world. Especially, the death of Damini (whose real name is Jyoti Singh); a victim of an incident of gang rape in India was an eye opener about the sorry condition of women in our part of the world. Women are becoming increasingly insecure everyday. A daughter has become a risk to her parents. On the one hand, we are noticing a group of males including father, brother and husbands becoming anxious about security of their female relatives. While, on the other hand, another group of males is busy in harassing, teasing and abusing women both mentally and physically. The main reasons behind such violence can be traced in the foundation the patriarchal society, the ignorance of superiors in our families, weak law system and misinterpretation of religions.
To make the society secure for the women, we need to change our mind first. Let us make ourselves aware against any injustice towards women.

To have a sound mind
While leading our daily life and dealing with others on day to day matters our mood often changes for different reasons. But sometimes it changes without any reason and causes several problems. In clinical psychiatry it is called mood disorder. It's an obstacle towards leading a peaceful life. . Patients of mood disorder are often alleged of unexpected behaviours. Others perceive them as weird or rude. This kind of mental disorders are spreading randomly in our society. Typical mental disease like this should be publicised in electronic media, journals and articles so that people become conscious about such diseases.
