What if you can eat all your favourite food to your heart's content and didn't need to be worried about putting on weight? Well, you might already be taking a sigh and thinking of turning the page as the proposition sounds too good to be true. Well, guess what, there is actually a place in the city where you can have everything from Kacchi Biriyani to Special Chicken Shawarma without counting your calories. Oil Free Food or OFF as its owners like to call it, is a restaurant that strives to provide its customer with quality food which is tasteful to their palate and good for their body. The restaurant offers a menu containing both pure Bangladeshi and Middle Eastern cuisines that are completely free from oil, ghee or tasting salt and other ingredients that are often speculated to cause problems like hyper tension, obesity and so on.

One can go to OFF for heavy meals like oil free Kaachi Biriyani, Hyderabadi Dum Biriyani and Special Hari Biriyani, or light afternoon snacks such as pan fried Shawarma. The range of special dishes that OFF offers, also include lip smacking Middle Eastern curries such as Solana and Prawn Majboos. Since these dishes are usually very rich in oil, one might assume that they taste like a patient's diet, who is suffering from a bad stomach! Well, worry not, all the OFF items are cooked by chefs, trained from the Middle East who have mastered the art of making delicious food without oil, by grilling, steaming and by putting just the right amount of spices.

Rayan Hasan, a student of Dhaka University says, “I have become a big fan of OFF. I especially like the oil free Kaachi Biriyani. You can have as much as you like of this Biryani, which by the way is delicious in taste, and won't even have to suffer from any kind of stomach problems afterwards!” What makes the OFF delicacies tastier is their economical price. Most of the dishes found in OFF range between Tk 200 to Tk 280, while the fish or meat Solana can appear a bit heavy to one's moneybag as their price ranges between Tk 720 to Tk 2280, depending on what type of fish or meat you would prefer with your Solana. For students, special economy packs of Kacchi Biriyani, costing only Tk 195 are available.

Subrata Dhar, a student pursuing an ACCA degree and one of the owners of OFF says, “Actually, I along with some friends started OFF with an aim to do something different. We have a mission to free people from all those oily food, high in fatty acids and other harmful contents and create gastronomic delights which can keep one both satisfied and healthy.” OFF is a joint initiative by eight friends, all of whom happen to be students. “As a Business Studies student, I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur. However, I had to toil a great deal to convince my parent about investing in a restaurant. Fortunately, I got a very positive response from my customers, who are satisfied with the quality food I provide them,” adds Subrata.

In its recent venture, OFF has introduced special breakfast and special kid's meal for its customers. The kid's meal contains honey roasted chicken and sweet polao, loved equally by both adults and children. Soon there will be fast food items like burgers and grilled chicken, all of which will obviously be free from oil and ghee! So keep your fingers crossed to indulge in yummy fast food items which dieticians will encourage you to eat! The restaurant has selling points in both Dhanmondi and Uttara. Plus, OFF can also be found on Facebook at www.facebook.com/off.oilfreefood.
