JAAGO Foundation's Annual Iftaar Party held

Every year during the holy month of Ramadan, JAAGO Foundation organises an iftaar party to be held for all of its kids. This year the Annual Iftaar Party was held in three branches of the JAAGO School--Rayer Bazar, Karail and Tongi, on August 3, 2012. The annual iftaar party is a friendly gathering of all the sponsors, donors, corporates and partner organisations. It is an opportunity for all the stakeholders to interact with each other.

The iftaar party started around 6:30 pm, at the Rayer Bazar 'Boishakhi Khelar Maath'. The volunteers dressed in signature white, lined up inside the tent, escorting children and guests to take their seats and passing out dishes of warm food. The guests sat opposite to the students. This was done to encourage interaction between the supporters and the children. With the Azaan, everyone broke their day long fasts and the most emotional sight was that, the guests were helping to serve and feed the small children.

The iftaar parties at the Tongi and Karail Branches were broadcasted live at the Rayer Bazar branch through WebEx, the same technology that allows JAAGO to host its online schools. It tied up all the three branches. 'Khichuri' (hotchpotch) was served as dinner afterwards. Founder of Jaago Foundation, Korvi Rakshand proudly proclaimed, 'This iftaar party is only for our school kids. So, we banned all yellow shirts. But, as we love the colour yellow so much, we put khichuri in our menu.'

Notable faces like Tore Johnson, CEO of Grameenphone, Rubana Haque, Managing Director of Mohammadi Group, Rosemary Arnott, Director of Britiish Council, Akku Chowdhury, Managing Director of Transcom Foods Ltd, Syed S Kaiser Kabir, CEO and Managing Director of Renata Limited, Imtiaz Ilahi, Managing Director of GraphicPeople, Richard Lace from BBC Media Action were present at the event. The party was supported by Green Delta Insurance Ltd, Pizza Hut, KFC, Renata, Far East Knitting and Dying Ltd, GraphicPeople, Aviation Plus and the BRAC University Film Club. JAAGO Foundation is a youth based organisation dedicated to the betterment of the impoverished population through the spread of education.
