South Asian Youth Leaders' Summit 2012 at NSU
The first South Asian Youth Leaders' Summit in Dhaka took place from February 16-18. Selected youth leaders from the SAARC countries participated in the programme. Observers from the US, Sweden, Japan and Canada also attended the programme at North South University (NSU).
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of NSU Foundation, Md Shahjahan, inaugurated the programme at the NSU auditorium. He called upon the youth community to be vibrant with the spirit of knowledge and technology. Referring to the importance of entrepreneurship the chief guest said the youth should be encouraged to be job makers instead of job seekers.
The chief guest also emphasised on the unity of South Asia. He remarked that the people of this region love to be in harmony and peace.
The programme was held on the theme 'Building Prosperity'. South Asian Youth Society (SAYS) organised the programme with the support of the US Department of State and US Embassy Dhaka and NSU as Academic and Venue Partner. Vice Chancellor to North South University and President of the Fulbright Alumni Association, Professor Hafiz G A Siddiqi and President of Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Selima Ahmad were present as special guest.
In her speech Selima Ahmad referred back to the challenges of women entrepreneurship and called the South Asian youth to accept the challenges with integrity. Professor Hafiz G A Siddiqi encouraged the youth to explore their immense possibilities to make the world a better place for future generations.
Professor Barry Bannister, former consultant to the US Department of State, congratulated the participants for holding a successful meet in Dhaka. Group Director of Rahimafrooz, Niaz Rahim was also present as the Guest of Honour.
