Inter Department Programming Contest at Stamford

1ST Inter department programming contest was held in Stamford University, Bangladesh on 7th February, 2009, organized by the department of Computer Science. Honorable Vice Chancellor of Stamford University, Prof. Dr. M. Mojibur Rahman was the chief patron of the contest. There were 19 registered teams who took part in the contest. Main goal of this contest was to organize National Collegiate Programming Contest (NCPC) and to build up the programmers for the International Collegiate Programming Contest. Director & chief judge of the contest was Prof Dr. Jugal Krisna Das, Chairman, Department of computer science, Stamford University Bangladesh. The contest started at 10 am after the inauguration ceremony. Prize giving ceremony was held after the contest at 2 pm. Vice chancellor Porf. Dr. M. Majibur Rahman & Prof Dr. Jugal Krisna Das, Chairman, Department of computer science distributed the prizes to the winners. The teachers and the students of the department of CS supported with their full co-operation to arrange this program. Mr. Saiful Islam Mamun was the chief coordinator of the program. Among the teachers Mr. Amran Siddique ,Mr. A.B.M.Bodrul Alam, Mr. K.M Noor, Mr. Firoz Mridha and Shanchita Rahman helped a lot in successfully organizing the program. Among the students Pronob Chandra Saha, Mahbubul Alam, S.M. Sarwar Hasan and Md. Sadequr Rahman were the problem setters and worked as main organizers. In this program the judge panel was made in combination of teachers and students. The top three winners are team 34-A , Cross Fire and Stamford Switch Off. All the top three winners are from the Computer Science department.

Foundation Ceremony of IEEA at IUBAT

THE Foundation Ceremony of Electrical and Electronic Association (IEEA), IUBAT was held on 2 March. Professor Dr M Alimullah Miyan, Vice-Chancellor, International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT), inaugurated the event. Speakers expressed concern over inadequacy in technical knowledge hindering overall technological progress in the country. Prof Dr Engr A Z A Saifullah, Chair, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Md Munirul Islam, Chair, Civil Engineering, Prof. Amanullah, Chair, College of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Utpal Kanti Das, Coordinator, Computer Science, Engineer Abul Basher, Coordinator, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Mrs. Selina Nargis, Director, Administration spoke on the occasion highlighting various aspects of developing professional insight and commitment. Departmental Chairs of Engineering Departments, Coordinators, Faculty Members, Alumnus, students and important members of local community attended the event. The celebration ended with a colorful cultural function.

AIUB convocation held

PRESIDENT Zillur Rahman called upon all to ensure the optimum use of the country's limited resources for building a prosperous Bangladesh.
“Our aim should be to build an IT-oriented knowledge-based society to face the global challenges,” he told the 9th convocation of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the city.
Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Sakir Ozkan Torunlar delivered the convocation speech at the function. AIUB Vice Chancellor Dr Carmen Z Lamagna and its Trustee Board Chairman Dr Anwarul Abedin also spoke on the occasion. A total of 858 students were conferred graduate and post-graduate degrees in different disciplines. Among them three were awarded the Chancellor's Gold Medals for their outstanding performances.

Seminar on career planning

BRAC University Career Services and Department of Computer Science & Engineering arranged an interactive seminar on “Career in Electronics and Communication Sectors” on 23 February 2009. Mr. Tahsinur Rashid Khan (General Manager, Field Operations & Transmission, CITY CELL), Mr. Md. Rezaul Kabir (COO, Novotel) and Md. Nurul Aktar (CEO and Director Energypac Electronics Ltd.) were the guest-speakers at the seminar.
A small presentation was also organised on the student's perspective. It was followed by an introductory speech from Prof. Sayeed Salam, Chairperson, Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The discussion began with the speeches of the guest speakers on various topics. Participating students asked a range of questions that were patiently answered by the guest speakers. The event took place at BRAC Center Inn Auditorium and it was co-organized by BRAC University Electronics and Communication Club.

SUST observes Ekushey

THE Department of Anthropology at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet organized a grand rally and a discussion meeting in observance of the International Mother's Language Day. More than one thousand students, a good number of teachers, representatives from several ethnic communities, members of civil society as well as Nepalese students took part in the event. The rally ended at the central Shahid Minar, where the chair of the Department AKM Mazharul Islam and the representatives of several groups offered floral wreath. The program was followed by a discussion meeting participated by the members of Khasi, Monipuri and Patra community and other representatives who spoke in their own mother tongue. The leaders of the ethnic community expressed gratitude to the Department for inviting and honoring their languages at the University level. The Chair of the Department presided over the session.
