International Coastline Cleanup 2008

Munaf Mujib Chowdhury

IUbians are always keen to participate in a diverse range of activities. The International Coastline Cleanup 2008 was no exception.

A bag-packers community, Kewkra Don Bangladesh (www.kewkradon.com) in collaboration with two IUB clubs, organized the International Coastline Cleanup 2008: HOPE, a welfare club and Film & Photography Club (FPC). Kewkra Don Bangladesh comprises of three young adventurers. Salman, an IUBian, Tonmoy and Jeetu, have led this International Coastal Cleanup, which has been
practiced for the last three years here in Bangladesh.

A group of 600 volunteer students from EWU, NSU, BRACU, Stamford alongside the IUBians went to Kuakata on the 4th of September and on 5th they toiled with perseverance to clean up the coastline. After they returned on the 6th, Salman and his bag-packers group had sent a report to the Ocean Conservancy, Washington on the situation of the coastal cleanliness. The Coastline Cleanup is a direct concern of the Ocean Conservancy, which is a pro-environment organization that aims at preserving the coastline of the world.

IUBians have been participating in this conservation effort for the past two years as last year the initiative was taken by the IUB Environmental Science Department. Banglalink has been the sponsor on both occasions and they are greatly enthused by the proficient organization of the Coastline Cleanup.

Have a Laugh!!!

A man went into a bar in a high-rise building. He saw another man take a pill, take a drink, walk to the window and jump out. He flew around for a minute and zipped back into the bar.

As the amazed newcomer watched, the man repeated this twice more. Finally the man asked if he could have a pill. The flier said it was his last one. The man offered five hundred dollars to no avail, so he made a final offer of a thousand dollars. The man said that it was all he had on him.

The flier reluctantly gave in, took the cash, surrendered the pill, and turned back to the bar. The man took the pill, took a drink, went to the window, and jumped out only to fall to his death.

The bartender walked over to the flier at the bar and, wiping a glass, said, "You are such a jerk when you're drunk, Superman.”
