DIU holds orientation
The orientation program of the newly enrolled undergraduate students of faculty of Business & Economics of the Spring 2007 semester of Daffodil International University was held on 20 January. Four hundred students have enrolled in this semester in DIU.
Professor Dr. Aminul Islam, Vice-Chancellor welcomed the students and introduced them to the DIU faculty members and officials. In his speech Professor Dr. Aminul Islam congratulated the students, He said" Three major things-discipline, honesty and quality can make a life successful". To be a complete citizen of the country he advised the students to achieve those virtues.
Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean of Faculty of Business and Economics, DIU Professor Shahjahan Mina, also welcomed the students.
PSTU final examination held on Jan 15
The final examination of all 8 semesters of agriculture faculty of Patuakhali Science & Technology University (PSTU) was held on January 15. The original schedule for holding the exam was December 26 last year.
PSTU teachers recruitment exam cancelled
Examination for the recruitment of teachers of Patuakhali Science & Technology University (PSTU) has been cancelled. The schedule for holding of the exam was January 10 and 11.

4th International Business Research Conference
The 4th International Business Research Conference was organized from 14th January to 15th January, 2007 at BIAM, Dhaka by World Business Institute. There was one session on "Banking & Insurance" . The session was presided over by Dr. Muhammad Mahboob Ali, Chairman, School of Business Administration, The People's University of Bangladesh.
Three papers were presented in the session. Dr. Muhammad Mahboob Ali commented that small and medium enterprise banking is very important to develop the economic condition of the country. For the sake of money market development, SWAP should be practiced in the financial institutions and also direct insurance broker channel is very important. Dr. Mohammad Ziaul Hoque, Faculty of Business and Economics, Monash University, Australia coordinated the program.
Another session was presided over by Mr. M.A. Sattar Bhuiyan, Economic Adviser, Ministry of Finance. Prof. Dr. Mahmood Osman Imam, Chairman, Dept. of Finance presented five papers.
Papers were also presented by different faculties from USA, Australia,Portugal, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and total papers were fifty. In first day Dr. Muhammad Mahboob Ali presented a paper on " Macro econometric model of Bangladesh".
BRAC University -- ICDDR, B MoU signed
BRAC University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ICDDR, B for academic collaboration in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in biotechnology, microbiology and pharmacy. BRAC University has been established by BRAC with a goal to provide high quality education to young people. There are over 2,500 undergraduate students currently enrolled in BU. The university offers postgraduate courses in Business Administration, English, Law, Governance and Development Studies and Disaster Management. BU has also established the James P Grant School of Public Health in collaboration with ICDDR, B to ensure the highest quality public health education through institutional collaboration, cooperation and joint activities, with a commitment to serving the interest of public health in the country.
Under the present MoU the ICCDDR'B will allow the students of BU to use its laboratory facilities, accept the BU final year B.SC/MS students in microbiology, biotechnology and pharmacy for research work on relevant topics, including environmental microbiology, medical microbiology, biotechnology, and medical biotechnology.
Professor JR Choudhury, Vice Chancellor, BU, Dr David A Sack, Director, ICDDR'B signed the MoU on behalf of the respective organizations. Dr Alejandro Cravioto, Deputy Executive Director, ICDDR'B, Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, Pro vice Chancellor, BU, Professor AA Ziauddin Ahmad, Chairperson, MNS Department, Professor Naiyyum Choudhury, Cordinator, Biotechnology, BU, Dr GB Nair, Director, Laboratory Sciences Division, ICDDR'B, Dr Firdausi Qadri, and Dr Shah M Faruque of ICDDR'B were present during the signing ceremony.
Road to 19th Informatics Olympiad
The hunt for the best computer programmer
The search for the best computer programmer of Bangladesh kicked off as the regional selection rounds started from 19 January. The event is co-ordinated by the Bangladesh Informatics Committee. The committee held selection exams in five divisions across Bangladesh. The venues were Notre Dame College in Dhaka, Rajshahi University of Science and Technology (RUET) in Rajshahi, Khulna University of Science and Technology (KUET) in Khulna, Metropolitan University in Sylhet and Premier University in Chittagong.
The questions were specially designed to sort out the student with the best logic and were based on mathematics, computer programming and logical problems. The winners of the divisional rounds will be called to compete at the National Informatics Olympiad. It will be a huge event where the selected programmers from all over Bangladesh will compete against each other. The winners of the round will be going to the 19th International Informatics Olympiad (IOI), at Croatia where they will be competing against the best programmers of the world.
Bangladesh had their debut at the International Informatics Olympiad (IOI) by participating at the 18th IOI, which was held in Mexico. The members of the Bangladesh team were students of Notre Dame College Ikram Mahmud, M Tanvir Kaikobad and Tasnim Imran Sunny.
